Currently running on GA-H55M-UD2H + 2 x 2GB Elite DDR3 1333.
Bought a pair of 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600 to upgrade.

After loading in the new RAM, windows boots to this screen and stops:

Website states that 1600 is supported:
Support for DDR3 2200+/1800/1600/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

Can someone advise?

doubt its speed issue.
Are you running your old + new ram tgt or just the new stick?

Check if ram seated properly, then boot into bios and see if it's detected.
Otherwise run memtest to check ram for errors.

You need to manually set the memory timings to the slower memory as well as the voltage used as the autodetect can mess up when all 4 channels are in use.

Usually you should buy same brand and same speed to ensure compatibility.

what is the max ram your mobo can take? 16gb with 4 slots? and you got 16gb in 2 slots (I read a PAIR OF 8gb from what you mentioned)?

I'm quite sure it takes MAX 4gb per slot to come up to total of 16gb.

I had a 1156 asus mobo that took 16gb, but ONLY at 1333mhz, AND with a combination of 4 x 4gb. If it was 1600mhz, it could only be 4gb x 2 MAX or something like that.

Are you referring to this part?

4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory (Note 1)

I read it as supported up to 16GB, so wanted to replace the current old RAMs as well.

So it's a confirmed limitation causing the boot failure?

Iirc RAM with diff speed still can boot to Windows ba..just that the faster RAM will run at the speed of the slower one.

Sent from Xiaomi MI NOTE LTE using GAGT

Yup, confirmed seated properly and the new RAMs do work.

as it only support up till 16GB, just use your new pair of ram and sell your old set of 2x2GB rams

"oh okay, i think i found the problem. you have 8gb sticks of ram. that motherboard is too old to support 8gb sticks. those are pretty new. the only way to get 16gb is to have 4 4gb sticks of ram.

what bios version do you have. the gigabyte website says the latest bios F11 adds improved memory compatibility."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

that, and i'm like 90% sure that your mobo only supports 4gb MAX per slot.

Shouldn't be a problem if the RAM is compatible. I currently have two systems running totally different pairs of RAM (different manufacturer, size and speed) in dual channel mode without any problem.
