Any idea how can I change my Ram speed?

I've changed it in bios to 3200 alr but then it's not working.

I thinks it's the RAM timing cause the instability, try to revert back the the std timing if possible.

Sometimes like that, my ASUS board was having same issue, BIOS changed but it does not reflect in task manager.

What I did was go to bios and reset everything to default -> boot up normally -> shut down -> BIOS change -> boot up normally.

Task manager doesn't show, but I check my ram speed through CMD

Click Start, type: CMD

Right click CMD

Click Run as administrator



Type the following command then hit Enter:



wmic memorychip get speed


What i got is 2133MHz

No guarantee will work. If the system detects the ram timings is unstable, it will default to base settings when boot up. Possibly in this case you need to upvolt a bit but highly hugely not recommended unless you know what you are doing.

What i got is 2133MHz

use hwinfo64 to check, if still 1066mhz then boot into bios and check. how are you setting the speed? xmp/docp?

the CAM report is correct. 1066 x 2 = 2133 which is what windows reporting.

likely tried to OC the ram but settings unstable, as AS1 said, reverted to default timing.

Is your RAM AMD Ryzen certified?
Meaning that the box have AMD Ryzen logo.
Suspect you could have brought the Intel XMP version.

I read gigabyte Xmp settings doesn’t persist one. Or problematic. Maybe latest bios might help?

Here we go again. It has already been established that certified or not, doesn't mean the RAM won't work. Before you go running out to buy new RAM from hearing some fake news, take a step back and walk thru the steps of overclocking RAM properly.

First things first: the RAM works fine in default settings, right? 2133 MHz, it boots, it functions, you are not getting black screens, programs hang etc.

Second, you still have not detailed how did you set the overclock . RAM overclocking may not be rocket science, but it's also not as simply as go into the BIOS, choose a speed and that's it. Most importantly you need to set the right timings combined with an adequate voltage

Hmm okay, I followed this youtube to change, i think it's through XMP, but i just did the basics.

I changed XMP profile 1
Changes the system memory multiplier to 32

Thats all.

your RAM timing seems being modified, even compared to the youtube which was defaults at 16-18-18-36 for the stable timing.

my experience of using Corsair RAM as per my current profile was best to leave the timing unchanged yet if you want you can increase the Speed to from 3200MHz to 2 or 3 steps was considered ok.

Nevertheless your motherboard advertised speed at max 3600MHz, if you want to maximized your RAM value, you can try to OC the 3466MHz speed (no change timing 16-18-18-36) for a week to test if this is stable enough before you move on to 3600MHz with same timing.

But honestly you will not see any major differences from 3200MHz and beyond in normal desktop usage due to CPU bounding, even in game will hardly noticed any different unless you keep looking at the screen statistic everytime you use PC

Well you don't just change one setting and everything else unchanged and expect it to work.

Most motherboards are at least smart enough to use JEDEC-ish timings when you choose a higher clockspeed, but they will not automatically increase the voltage to 1.35V for you unless you switch on XMP. And not all RAM can run 3200MHz at 1.2V

So, ya, first thing, enable XMP.
A) Did it work? Yes? Good
B) Didn't work? Follow the below in order:

1) Manually up voltage to 1.35V, restart and test.
2) Set frequency to 3200MHz, timings auto by motherboard, restart and test
3) Then set the timings to whatever the RAM says it should have

2) Set frequency to 3200MHz, timings auto by motherboard, restart and test <- to start with safe, stable timings
3) Then set the timings to whatever the RAM says it should have <- tighten to fast timings

Try this way.

Truebeliever also mentioned a possible issue where your mobo doesn't save the XMP settings, so make sure that that's not the issue. If it is, then just manual overclock using the same values. To know what are the same values, use HWInfo and it will show what XMP profiles are stored in your RAM. Just copy those values and enter it manually. This is usually done under the "DRAM Timings" options

Edit: may sound silly but always make sure to "Exit and Save Changes" in the BIOS. Most if not all BIOS these days will also show you exactly what was changed, so you can confirm it.

Not fact: there are "ryzen ram" and "intel ram"
