RAM upgrading issues

Hi all.

I am having difficulties upgrading my RAM, from 2x2gb to 2x4gb. What happened was that the computer failed to boot up after the change; fans are running, mobo light is on but no display.

I have searched for the solution online and the common solution was to flash the cmos in my mobo, which I have tried as well but to no avail. Playing around with the bios system, I went to set the frequency and voltage, previously at "Auto", to 1333mhz & 1.5v respectively and reboot the system again. When the PC restarted, the next screen displayed it as "overclock settings failed" and I proceed to press F10 to restart with normal settings. Miraculously, I was able to enter Windows after this attempt and the system displayed the installed RAM as 8gb.

The problem after this was, when I restart my PC for next usage, the same problem occured. I tried to repeat the same steps that allowed me to boot up in the first place and it is still able to work, but always after the next shutdown, it will not boot up again. I don't think the RAM modules are faulty nor was it a compatibility issue, if not my PC won't even boot up properly in the first place I assume.

System specs are as followed:

Mobo: ASUS M4A77TD PRO
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
RAM (Old): Team Elite DDR3 10600/1333mhz 2gb x 2
RAM (New): G Skill DDR3 10600/1333mhz 4gb x 2
PSU: 500w

Try cleaning the PINS on ram and motherboard slots with alcohol(not drinking type)


try using the original pair to see if it can run.

IF works, try the other pair.

If it works, then it means the 2 pairs(4 of them) are not compatible to run together

Hey there. The original pair (2x2gb) works well everytime I put it back on (am using it right now). I tried using a piece of the 4gb ram separately but the same problem occurs still

Clear your CMOS first. If still same problem, run memtest86 on your two 4GB rams separately first to check whether they are non-problematic. If okay, try slotting these two rams into the other two ram slots instead.

One of my rig is similar to TS.

Though my memory voltage is set to AUTO, I can see the reading as 1.650V.

TS, try to increase memory voltage to 1.6v or 1.65v and see if stable.

Hey there, I'll try to increase the voltage & see if it works. With regards to the memtest86, I'm not really sure how to do it, so I'll probably skip it in case I mess up again.

do you still have the model no. of the rams?

use google and check the model number.

I believe they should be both(both brands) 1.5v
If they operate at different voltage then that will be a problem.

I had a ram OCZ that can only run @ 1.65v. If I set to auto(which will put to 1.5v) I will get random blue screen. I had to manually set to 1.65v. But please check first or you may do damage to your RAMS

Yup, the sticker on both rams state 1.50v. Hm, but will it be ok if I were to raise the voltage even if it states 1.50v? I'm not too sure about that

why dun you try you gskill ram one by one and check individually work well before running both together.

Try at your own risk, start with 1.55, 1.60 then 1.65.
