Random FPS drops in games

Before we get anywhere, here are my specs:
Lenovo G405s
Windows 8.1
AMD A8-550M APU 2.10Ghz
AMD Radeon HD 8550G
Dual Graphics enabled (GPU + APU)
8GB RAM

So here's the problem. When I play games like dota 2 and battlefield, I would have these random FPS drops even though my laptop can handle the games.

I would get around 40 fps for BF3 but when it drops, it drops hard. Like, to 10 fps hard. Dota too, even though i can manage to hit 60 constantly, the fps will still drop to 20+.

My settings have been lowered quite a lot, so that when the fps drops, it doesn't drop too low. Interestingly, when the fps drops in dota 2, it always caps my fps at 30, while fluctuating below it. I have tried making the game's fps cap unlimited, but it somehow keeps randomly dropping.

When I check the task manager, everything seems fine though. CPU is running ok, RAM usage is within an ok range and disk usage isn't that high

As for the duration, it seems that when it drops, it drops for a few minutes, then bounces back up high for about 20~30s. Extremely frustrating, as these games are quite fps-reliant for good gameplay.

My power plan forces full power onto performance, and I have used the AMD Catalyst Control Center to get rid of the fps problems, but to no avail.
I constantly defrag my computer as well as get rid of unused files, and when I play a game, I try to close unnecessary apps and set the game's priority to high.

My laptop is also 1 year old, but I don't really know how to clean the fans in it, so that might be the problem, but I don't really think so. I also constantly update my drivers and BIOS.

EDIT: Found out that my CPU's actual clock speed drops to 0.86Ghz when it's lagging and when it returns to normal, the game stops lagging. I'll see if I can find something to solve this.
