how to you guys make the background blur, and the subject in focus?

Can this be done in the Fujifilm F200EXR?

eg : 3hubb3r's picture of his cute dog!

A friend of mine gave me a tip. To compose such photos, your appearature value must be low (eg. F2.8). Your camera needs to have sufficient depth of field (DOF) too.

For me, my trick is, I will walk close or zoom into the subject, switch the camera to macro mode and capture it. (You might need to use this trick for F200EXR as I think the DOF for the camera is not sufficient enough).

Experts, please correct me if i am wrong.
