check your shutter speed and the lighting around you...and not to mention the way you hold your camera

U can tried increasing the shutter speed to help on the blur of the picture.

On the Image stabilization of the len if u are using one. If u are using a tripod, then off it.

Did u auto focus it before pressing fully ?

A tripod will definitely help especially during low night condition but if can do without it will be much convenient.

but thing is, the inside too "scary", u gt the feeling that something might just jump out of the water inside and poison u to death

Walk pass Hort park so went in took some shots. Time was around 12+ to 1+..crazy weather...

Wrong day for the visit to the Barrage. Super hot, I think 2mm of my skin surfaced is now cooked..

It really depend on what you want to shoot and when you shoot.
Using a tripod does not necessary give u sharp images, there are also a certain procedure to follows.
For me daytime I dun shoot with a tripod but for night time, I will shoot with tripod with a shutter release controller.
What the shutter speed when you shoot? is it less than 1/60? Of cos this depending on what you are shooting also.

50mm f1.8mm is a good lens, if I dun remembering wrongly it sweet spot is at f2.0
Btw, u only have 50mm only and normally what you shoot?

Maybe you could provide us a pic so that we could take a look. I guess everyone is glad to help you in this as photography is ever learning.
