Random restarts from desktop.

I replaced my PSU and GPU recently.

The new PSU is a Xigamtek 650W 80GOLD and my new GPU is a ASUS GTX 960 TURBO OC 4GB.

The reason for getting my GPU replaced was because whenever I played games, after like 30 minutes of gameplay, the desktop would restart. I tried using other GPUs and there was no signs of the auto restart, hence I made the change.

Right now I am able to enjoy a full game, in fact many full games of PUBG. After the games, I would go to Youtube and hear some music and bam it would restart. It got worse, when I reply to people sometimes in game, like through Steam chat, bam it restarts also. I am getting really fustrated, I even reformat from Windows 10 back to Windows 7, did a clean install too, it was fine for a few days and now the problem is back again.

Really fustrated with this, contemplating on RMA-ing the GPU and PSU, but want to hear advice from bros here before coming to a conclusion.

Have you tried dialing back your OCs or testing your components with Memtest, Prime95 etc? Your system is obviously not stable.

what programs should i use to test? please advise.

I would start with Prime 95 for CPU, Memtest86 for RAM and WD Data Lifeguard (SMART Extended) for the SSD and HDDs.

You can also consider changing the CMOS battery since the MB should be a few years old by now.

That's a very frustrating situation to be in.

Try to isolate the problem. To see if it's the software, do a clean boot:

Run the PC normally and try to trigger a restart.

IF the PC is still unstable, it may be hardware. If you have had the PC for a few years, try reapplying thermal paste on the CPU. Clean the contacts of the ram modules (and the ram slots on the motherboard) with contact cleaner.

If it is still unstable, you may have a defective motherboard (esp. the RAM slots) or some other hardware error. These errors may or may not show up on memtest or prime95, but once the symptoms begin, they tend to happen with increasing regularity until the computer kaputs a short time down the lane.

I highly doubt its the software as I have reformat the whole desktop.

I did change my thermal paste on the cpu just very recently.

Just want to pinpoint which hardware is causing this.. for now memtest is definitely showing a lot of errors, just waiting for the test to end.

Will probably update, when I am awake tomorrow.

Memtest is for RAM. There is no need to finish, one error is one too many.

You can try removing all the RAM, clean the gold contacts, check the memory slots on the MB are free of dust, replace the RAM and test again.

If the error persist, try with one stick at a time to isolate the bad stick.

Once you have identified a bad stick, test the same stick again on a different RAM slot (in case it is slot and not RAM problem).

If the same stick gives errors on two different slots, then that is the problem.

Your RAM at 2400 is already OC'ed even if it is rated for that. You can try testing at the default 1600.

they were at 1866mhz, downclocked them to 1600mhz and ran memtest.

the errors were significantly lesser, I tried to test them one by one after taking them out. now the desktop powers on, but the keyboard and mouse does not light up and after awhile it restarts. I took a ram from my spare desktop and am running memtest right now.

also contacted corbell and g.skillz to check on RMA procedure.

swapped in a new ram, which i tested.

0 errors on memtest.

i started gaming as usual and after playing for 2 hours, i stopped and went to my bed. my computer restarted again.

going to test my cpu next.

testing ssd and hdd now.

I too have this error recently and its really hard to pinpoint.
Am still trying to find out what went wrong.

No choice, for some com problems, really need to troubleshoot around
Most likely is my HDD that is failing me.

hijacking this thread, looking for some advice on some pc issue too.

sometimes im playing game and the following would happen
- pc sudden freeze for 2-3 sec and reboot instantly
- pc sudden freeze but the background game/music/app will still run, till i force restart
- pc would not boot into windows and have to reboot multiple time

Have used CrystalDiskInfo and check health of hdd (Good status). Tried windows memory diagnostic and no issue was found. Could it be gpu issue?

anyone got similar experience can share? TIA

Motherboard failure and ram

Spare Motherboard needed
SPare Ram needed ( if you are using 2 sticks, use one only and replace with the other if problem still occur )

I am unsure how to go about testing mobo failure as I do not have a spare lga1150 mobo lying around.

Are there any programs to test motherboard failure?
