Hi everyone, I use my Rpi3 as a retro game emulator and media streaming box(less so as a Linux PC). Just burn the retropie image onto an SD card, load some roms and start playing with some old usb controllers lying around. I also downloaded and installed Kodi into Retropie.

Games and endless movies, TV series and beer, perfect way to waste a weekend. All free, except for the beer of course :D

Hi, has anyone used the Rpi3 installed with Home Assistant as bridge to Google Home/Mini to Broadlink RM Pro (IR & RF) for Smart Home automation?

Thinking to get one to try out.

I used OpenHab instead. It should be able to bind to Broadlink devices.

waiting now for the PM Pro to arrive ..only then can test out to see if a Rp3 will be necessary or not as bridge.

Raspberry Pi does not seem to be popular in this forum.

Anyway, just power up my two Raspberry Pi 3B+ again after putting them aside for around two years. Raspberry Pi OS is pretty smooth now but kind of boring.

So I am trying two other OS.
1) openwrt seems to work fine but the performance is not good due to USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter limitations. Raspberry Pi 4 is said to be great for openwrt and good enough for 1Gbps.

2) FreeBSD runs pretty well with Raspberry Pi 3B+. I usually use XFCE under Linux but this time I wanted to try something different. Now I am playing with i3 window manager and it seems to suit my needs.

It will be a lot more interesting if you choose to use it for other than a desktop. Driving e-ink displays, driving servos, make a multimedia dac out of it, perhaps couple with lego sets for some robotics. Just about any systems out there can be a desktop, but that is not RPI strength.

If you are interested, look at RPI CM4 with 3rd party IO boards or even try Turing PI if it fancy you to run k8s clusters for fun :)

Personally i use to to driving RC motor set, function as wireguard gateway, be my aircon IR control couple with Google Assistant which is on a separate PI, be my CCTV display(couple with a 10” HDMI display), work as a very special USB HID for my work. :)

Just bought the Raspberry Pi 400 from Cytron and it is pretty good to run Desktop ARM Linux, very decent performance with the stock 32bit Raspberry Pi OS.

It is probably just me, I have no interests to run GPIO related stuff under Linux, rather I will prefer to use MCU type of boards for GPIO, so I bought the Pico board from Cytron as well.
