Just setup a RP4B looks cool. Like to make this as PC replacement and some programming hobby. Any bro or sis here into Raspberry Pi project? Interested to know. Anyone use RP to install windows or Android OS?

Been using since RPI 1A.
Depending on your expectation, it may or may not be a desktop replacement

I mainly use it for VPN endpoints, DNS and DHCP server, surveillance camera display with an external HDMI display panel, surveillance camera via RPI camera, Google Home assistant, aircon remote controller via IR hat, telephone answering modem(for fun), Mumble server and client, DIY stuffs like driving motor, driving e-ink display, Retropie game console, and even something more specialised like a programmable headless bluetooth keyboard using RPI Zero W.

Basically tinkering stuffs.

Hey David, thanks! But I have the V1.2 board..... so it's not the V1.1 buggy USB-C port issue....

I was thinking I could cheat a little with a good 2.5A charger, but it doesn't boot up at all! Blank screen!

Any other tips or suggestions?

How do you confirm your raspberry pi is not booting up ? Is the red led not lit up, and/or the green led not blinking ? The green led will blink when it is reading the MicroSD card.

Next is are you using the right HDMI output to determine if the boot up is showing ?

Also are you sure the MicroSD card is imaged properly with the OS (assuming Raspbian) to boot successfully ?

Red light is constant, green light blinking inconstantly, fan is running, indicating it is running. But screen remains blackout all the time.

I tried port 0 (and sometimes port 1) with two separate HDMI cables. Screen remains blackout all the time.

I also have two SD cards and tried loading them with NOOBS and NOOBS Lite. Screen remains blackout all the time.

It would be good to find out if the HDMI ports are having problem too with these tests. Idea is if it does boot up, it should at least reply with network ping.

I am now updating and upgrading it headless and wireless.

So the pi is working, only the screen/mouse/keyboard might not be working for the pi...

Glad it helps screen mouse or keyboard not working is pretty rare. Modern monitor and HDMI should be rather stable to at least get picture.

You try image a new copy of raspbian and see if helps with ur problem.
Since you can at least go headless, enable SSH by simply touching a /boot/ssh file (google for more information), then SSH in and see what could be the problem

I bought one and leave it on at work. very stable no need restart for a few weeks

ooo quite nice..where did you get it and how much was it? i'm guessing it will need an ssd extension to install the other basic stuff like office suite/pdf reader but itself would be good for my parents to use for basic internet surfing and reading email

i preordered mine. spent $260 in total including ssd upgrade. you can search mini pc in lazada to get other brands for less than $250 (without ssd upgrade)

If you dont need the smallest size, can get other models.

if you need warranty, intel has j4005 nuc less than $220. just buy ssd and ram

If dont need warranty in lazada, search for cpu models such as
n4100, j4125, j4115, j5005 filter by max price of 270

you can buy armbian compatible box. i bought the cheapest 64gb/4gb ram below $50

Personally I feel the refurb are too overpriced since you can diy a new set for less than $300 with athlon 3000G cpu which has similar performance to those 8 year old cpus
