Hi,

Considering buying Razer laptop for general usage and gaming but after reading reviews on mostly US after sale support seems sux and lacking on this.

How about here in Singapore? Should I stay away? any other alternative?

Been a while since I had a windows laptop I've always been using MBP since ages ago (want to give windows a try)

** This is for personal machine at home, I have company issued windows laptop but I dont normally bring work at home nor install some games on it lol

Thanks

Razer US support is top notch.

I needed to replace 7 key caps on my Amazon-bought Black Widow Ultimate Stealth keyboard. It was out-of-warranty and I asked US support whether I could buy the replacement key caps. They sent me the key caps for free.

I eventually worn out a few key caps again (WASD mainly) and again asked US support whether I could buy replacements (by this time, the KB has been out-of-warranty for years) and they very nicely sent me the keys caps again for free.

Throughout all this, US support had been very friendly and responsive.

Bear in mind that this is the very first Black Widow Ultimate Stealth keyboard and I've had this for years.

I personally have pleasant experience with Razer support locally here in SG. My razer phone screen needs replacement due to my own carelessness so I log a request in their razerzone website, within couple hours, I received email from the tech support to kick start the support process. From the time tech support arranged to pick up my damaged phone to the time I received the repaired phone only took 4 calendar day (not working days) as I requested them to expedite the repair process as I would like my phone back asap. Kudos to them for obliging my request.

Again, just my personal opinion and my experience with them; nothing more nothing less.

Just sharing my experience.

Bough Razer Stealth laptop 1.5 - 2yrs ago through their online razer sg store. Paid everything in SGD (inclusive of 7% gst).

Received the laptop (think 1 week later?) and open up to test it. Unable to boot up the laptop with or without power adapter plugged in.

Emailed Razer support with my order number and asked for a 1 to 1 exchange (cos lemon law say can 1 to 1 exchange within 7 days of receiving defective goods). The support staff (i think is from US) told me they can send another laptop over but i need to pay for the shipping and tax (if any due to custom).

I immediately blast them saying that I have already paid the tax (gst) for the product and when i bought it from Razer online store, above $79 is free delivery, why should i pay again for shipping and tax.

Ding dong with the same guy next day and they refuse to waive the shipping and tax and claim that lemon law don't apply to them, which i again stress that i bough the laptop from razer.com/sg, therefore lemon law applies in sg context. In the end i asked them to escalate to their management or sg counterpart.

On the 3rd day, the manager emailed me and said he spoke to their SG counterpart and i can bring down the laptop to chai chee lane and let them check the laptop.

have to take half day on thursday to go down. The place is a factory area but inside their office, i can see billiard table, games etc in one corner (so welfare) and the counter girl quite cute. Once i show the girl the email from the US support team, immediately she contact one of the guy (who looks like japanese) and the guy took my laptop to their service dept and then came out with a new laptop and ask me to check. The guy was quite friendly as well.

So overall, i not sure how you decide what is good or bad service standard, but their QC definitely needs more work.

I only bought KB, Mouse and Gamepad with them and never really tried/experience sending it for warranty so far (either given away or sold - left with gamepad at home with crappy mouse lol) just read some forums about their horrible experience with quality and support... good thing not so bad here.. I probably wait out what Apple to offer since its less than 2 weeks away and they might announce new (also been hesitating selling this eGPU bought the other day works well with MBP just overheating issue... still thinking of getting options to replace - ultrabook/MBP vs gaming thingy)

Definitely not going away. With Apple's philosophy of device slimness, overheating is simply inevitable when cramming such hardware in that form factor.

Unless they suddenly do a 180 and use a 2012 MBP chassis, meh...

ya that's why I'm looking for alternative this time (other windows laptop).. I already experience full tower, mitx, eGPU... what I never tried so far is going gaming laptop otherwise I'll utilized my eGPU again and look for better ultrabook.

For me personally, I don't find it worth it/practical, even if I have $$$ to splash. Proper full on gaming laptops are bulky and cumbersome. When you spend that much money, one day you might go *meh* about the display size/quality. Then two years down the road, you can't upgrade the GPU. Then maybe one day you'll find the giant power brick an annoyance in the house.

Then if you look at half-baked gaming laptops, there's always significant compromise somewhere, bound to thermal throttle, etc.

Why don't you try asking your company's IT if there's any option for you to purchase an additional notebook; maybe you can score a decent ultrabook (with TB3 for eGPU) deal. Or instead pump money into better home networking and just use Steam in-home streaming.

ya there's also with size and weight... most gaming laptop really quite heavy and battery doesn't last long....

I have relatively new laptop at work actually got new replacement like 2-3 months ago but of course only got 1050ti dgpu and trying not to mix with personal thingy specially for gaming purpose (trying to be ethical and there's issue with weight I dislike bringing laptop everyday for work)

I went for that route last time steam streaming not really pleasant the lag is real lol... (maybe coz both the rig and mbp was connected through wifi)
