Hi guys and gals .. I need some help with regard to wireless modem cum router.

I have got a modem from Singtel (Tecom) about 10 years ago and got a Linksys Wrt54 to pair with it about 6-7 years ago.

This combination had served me well over the years but recently it has been intermittent with frequent dropped signal and I got restart them.
I wonder if it's time to change them and may I know if there are any good modem cum router for singnet Broadband?

I am looking at Linksys as I had good experience with the WRT54 so far but am open to other brands as long as they are tested to work with singnet and is reliable.

Please recommend me a good modem/router. Thanks

what plan? Tecom modem cannot 10mbps. Anyway, both device are aged already.

Any brand any model modems are fine, but try changing microfilters first, the lousy ones usually only last 3-5 years.

gt_5454, your linksys wrt54g might still be able to use but need to pair up with the ST Thompson 536v6 modem. These 2 combinations work very well on ST 10M surpassing what ST had given me the 2wire. I have been using both since my 3M, 8M and now 10M. Someone here and VRzone is offering quite cheap so maybe you can consider. Alternatively can get the ADSL2+ modem that come with wireless as well.

Thanks for the recommndation ..., I think I prefer a device that integrates the modems and router ...more convenient ...

Can recontract to 15Mbps

I'm on mioHome 10Mbps now. Just called in and got the Customer Retention team to replace mioHome with a normal land line and a 24-mth 15Mbps BB plan.

BB plan is $28.90 w GST per month. Landline is the usual $27.50 over 3 months plus usage charge. However, because this is a 2-yr contract and has to pay more than the $23 10Mbps plan, I wanted a $10 landline rebate. They gave me a 12-mth rebate, and said that I can call in after 12 mth to extend for another 12 mth rebate.

You can try asking for 10Mbps plan for 12-mth contract at $23.90. See if they give you the phone rebate too. I'll go with ADSL at the moment as I'm not interested in fibre optic.

Hope this helps!

Regarding the 12-mth $10 phone rebate with 15mbps 24-mth contract. When I last called from what I understand when u extend the phone rebate for another 12-mths u need to extend the 15mbps plan for for another 12-mth also. Meaning eventually yr final 12-mths contract will definitely be without the $10 phone rebate. This is if my understanding is correct. I opted for the 10mbps 12-mths plan.

Same here took up 10Mbps. When they can't document their phone waiver for 15Mbps 12mths later. Dun ever expect a TH corporation to waive you $120 a year just by calling. Need torrents bo bian .

how can i get my 2wire box to die... hmm....

Why u need to make it die cos of signal problem. 2wire have this wireless signal problem i would say. When i first used, signal was 5 bars.....then it slowly drop to 4 and at times even 3 till it show yellow color.

The only solution is to replace the firmware with 3rd party. I have done 1 set and used in my office and signal quite stable. The details is in this forum, try to search for it.

As for the aztech modem, also a little disappointed. Same problem on the wireless signal. No matter how I chg the channel, signal will tend to drop when use.

End up i disable the aztech wireless function and use back my linksys wrt54g as a wireless router to connect to the aztech modem. Wireless signal strong and stable till now.

You mean Qwest? Yup, 2 yrs good testimony to that. No more slow connection, when 1 user is torrenting (even having limit bt speed). Power pumped up, 3 bars across 3 rooms/10meters. Zero disconnections. But lose digital voice (only for analogue lines).. Spare hacked 2700 and 2701 sets to go!
