Recommend $1000 DIY Gaming Desktop

Hi guys, am planning to DIY a gaming rig but I have some of the parts on hand.

Parts owned:
Super Flower Golden King 750W
AMD HD7770
DVD-Rom
120GB SSD
Asus Soundcard
OS

Can anyone recommend me what to get for the rest? I just need the CPU and a 1TB 7200rpm HDD. Preferably mid/full tower case whichever is more suitable. Thanks!

If you are going for a gaming rig, you might need to upgrade your graphic card. I doubt you can play many games at high settings smoothly with 7770.

How much should I increase my budget by if I want to upgrade my graphics card? I don't really need a card that can play the latest games at the highest settings though but if it can run games like Flight Simulator X with ultra settings pretty smoothly I am fine with those.

If i'm not wrong, those flight simulator is more cpu intensive. I think 7770 might be able to make it just right for the game at high settings.

Since you are not building a full system, you may need top up $20-$30 for the cpu and mobo combo. But you can try to bargain with the shop and see if they are willing to offer you at the stated price. Just giving you a heads-up first in case you are shocked to see the price difference when you make payment.

1) I read online that a i5-4570 and a i7-4770 would perform equally well for gaming. I am not sure if it is true though.

2) If I upgrade my GPU to Gigabyte R9 280X 3GB Winforce OC, will the mobo and PSU be able to support it?

U using ssd to install OS the hdd won't make a big diff other then the longer warranty for wd black

Yes if u wan to upgrade to 280x can support, but I dun think u need it since u just light gaming

A i5 and i7 performs similar in gaming

Icic.. If I am planning to get the i5-4670k, which motherboard (preferably Z series) would be suitable for overclocking?

True. After some research, i think a higher clock speed will be better as compared to the hyper threading feature offered by i7. Maybe you can consider getting i5-4670k and overclock it to give you that extra cpu juice to run the game.

Yes, but i doubt there is a need for R9 280X for your game. Nonetheless, this card is a value buy!

Buying the WD Black will mainly make the difference in terms of warranty period and possibly reliability (IIRC based on RMA figures).

If you want to OC, Asrock Extreme4/ Extreme6 or one of the cheaper Z87 Gigabyte mobos would do. Do look at the features on each board first before deciding. Also, add in a decent cooler while at it. Haswell mainstream is not a very good overclocker unless you strike the silicon lottery (or delid).

I guess I will be getting the Asrock Extreme4. Will be getting a Hyper 212X along with it as well.

Do you think that I should get a CM Seidon 120V Water Cooling Kit for $8 more than a Hyper 212X?
