Paiseh haha! my current pc keeps giving me problems - turning off unexpectedly. Changed my PSU & RAM and this problem still persists. So intend to get a MOBO + CPU .. and probably a new GFX for an upgrade.

450 excluding gfx.
Can post remaining specs?

Regardless, you should aim for a board that will cater to your needs rather than a target budget. e.g. You shouldn't be getting a Z87/Z97 board if you don't intend to overclock CPU at all.

i faced similar sudden shut downs years ago and found out it's the motherboard overheating, specifically the chipset--it's finger burning hot. if your pc is not that old, maybe just changing the m/b is cheaper? just a suggestion :)

Thanks shiodong! I suspect it's my mb too. Sometimes after the pc shuts down, I can't even turn it on. I have to unplug the psu connector to mb then plug it back to turn it back on again.

I'm using msi gtx 560ti twin frozer. Sometimes the gfx temp can reach up 99degress when running games. I initially thought it's the gfx card problem, but the pc will also restart even when I'm surfing hwz -.- so I doubt it's purely gfx problem

Suspect

1) Your case f**king dusty
2) Or really poor ventilation
3) Thermal compound in GPU and/or CPU paste dried up
4) All of the above

1) Your case f**king dusty (been cleaning it up recently since it happened, so I can rule this out)
2) Or really poor ventilation (I have to admit my current casing has inadequate fans (only 2) and I have opened up my side casing. Still turn off unexpectedly)
3) Thermal compound in GPU and/or CPU paste dried up (how can I check this? Is it difficult to apply the paste?)
4) All of the above

it's easier for you to google or search youtube for videos/instructions for renewing cpu/gpu thermal paste than it is for us to list out the steps.

how old is your system? it's assembled by shop?

Thanks!

It was about 2-3 years old. Rma the gfx before, changed psu and ram before. Don't really understand why the parts failed so early. Probably bad casing and cooling fans

maybe sg getting hotter and more humid :s13:

if after all those renewing and still dont work, you can download the pricelists on hwz and take your pick from there. just take note the price of the components may not be what it seems--it may be a bundled price for whole system purchase(cpu/mb/vga/ram/casing etc), not just m/b + cpu. as you might know already, sls is full of snakes that squeeze you dry or just gulp you down whole, not unlike the recent coin case :s22:

good luck to you and hopefully the renewing works
