any recommendations? I'm planning to buy a 4tb drive to copy my old 2 tb drives to, so I'll have 2 2tb drives available.

No need for raid but it will be nice if the DAS has it. Any recommendations for a good and cheap 2-bay one?

I was actually looking for the hotway HUR1-Su3S2 case but it seems to be gone from the market already. Has anyone seen any around?

Actually, I find that most NAS do NOT have good ventilation or good air flow design. And the transfer speed for all this low end 2 bay NAS can be like 10-20MB/s due to the low spec cpu used and low RAM.

I would suggest that you setup a small PC and use it as a HTPC aka Home Theatre PC. Make sure you connect via Gigabit and not wifi to the router.

I am able to hit 100-110MB/s transfer rate from my PC via Gigabit to my router.
