Hi gurus.

I would like to get a laptop. Basically my main reason is to install iTunes and backup my iPhones and ipad. And maybe some simple Microsoft office use and surfing website. That’s all.

Anyone can recommend which is good and a good price? Very very Long no buy laptop and hope can get some info here.

Not worth to get a macbook just for the above usages rite?

What's your budget like? Will you be using it predominantly at home or do you intend to carry it around?

If that's the case, you shouldn't waste too much money. You can probably get away with only 128gb SSD instead of 1TB HDD, since the one with SSD will feel so much quicker.

That being said, if you're really looking to save some money (and don't want to get 2nd hand laptops), the 2 below are quite decent options, in my opinion. Definitely quick enough for every day use, unless you have like 20 tabs open in Google Chrome.

The 330s is also another alternative (and arguably better value, since it's a 15.6 inch laptop, with i5 and 256gb ssd, since there's the CNY online promo thing on Lenovo's website.

Basically, you're looking for i3/i5 laptops with 128/256gb SSD, with 4gb or 8gb ram. You can search across the different brands but that's pretty much the specs you'll want to be looking for, since anything more won't be put to use, given the kind of stuff you'll be using the laptop for.

Also, be sure to Google well, and see if there are any commonly reported problems that the model of laptop has, to better inform you of your decision.

I find ssd to be over rated, in the sense that, if you can find a decent laptop with a 1TB non-ssd HDD, it is better than one with a meagre 128GB SSD.

If 7200rpm HDD and Windows 7 not that bad, but most laptops give 5400rpm and Windows 10 which makes it really slow.

While that is generally true, if you look at what the OP intends to use it for, it's much better to get an ssd and have normal day to day applications like Chrome and Microsoft Office applications open quickly and feel very responsive, rather than have 800+gb of free space that won't be used.

For OP's purposes, the 80+ gb of free space is more than sufficient.

7200rpm HDD in thin laptop = higher surface temperatures

5400rpm HDD = aging snail as time goes by

I was just looking around last night. Lenovo E485 is another good value alternative, just based off of face value. You can upgrade to Ryzen 5 + 8 (4+4)gb ram + 256gb ssd for only $855. Plus, you'll get the 3 year on site warranty for just 1 cent. A much better deal than the other 2 or 3 I suggested yesterday. Iirc, there's a thread on here about this particular model of laptop, so you ought to read a bit and see if anyone encountered any problems or whatever.
