Recommend a rig under $2k

Hi,

Looking to build a rig under 2k, preferably around 1.5-1.8k range excluding monitors + OS.

Games I would be playing : BF4, Dota 2, AC series, etc.

Been looking into either getting GTX970 or R9 290, any advice for this?

Current Picks:
ASUS H97 PRO / i7-4790 (maybe i5??)
ASUS STRIX GTX970 or SAPPHIRE Vap-x R9 290
16gb ram
Corsair CS750W
SSD 128gb (maybe 256gb, depending on other parts)
HDD 3tb
Case (not much preference)

1) Must your motherboard be Asus? There are much cheaper alternatives avaliable and you do not need a H97 motherboard unless you are using RAID. A B85 motherboard would be good enough.

2) Must your GPU be Asus? There are much cheaper GTX 970s avaliable. Also, R9 290 GPUs have been OOS since June-July and the distros are unlikely to import more of them.

3) You do not need an i7. Games generally benefit little from Hyperthreading and the gains from an i7 are very little. Get an i5-4460 instead.

4) You do not need 16GB RAM for games as games do not use that much RAM unless the game has memory leak issues. 8GB RAM is good enough.

5) You do not need a 750W PSU. The GTX 970 can be ran safely with a 500W PSU. Also, get a Seasonic G series or a Superflower HX/Leadex series PSU instead of Corsair's CS series PSU as these PSUs have a better internal build quality than the CS PSU and retails for around the same price.
