what gives u an impression that this dongle need power to use?
the usb type c port is to allow u to feed power to the laptop through the dongle and at the same time allowing use of the ports on the dongle.
if u don't have the charger to the laptop with u. the dongle should function as it is without needing the power.
Bought a couple of this and so far there isn't a problem with it.
