Recommend budget desktop/aio

Its finally time to get a new computer for the house (mainly for kids to do homework), with nothing that can be reused (old Core 2 Duo and outdated OS). Just wondering whether its still worth going the diy route, or is there any assembled PC that is worth getting to save the hassle.

Requirements are basic, internet and for school work and not take up too much table space. Minimum screen size of 21", 24" preferred. Budget abt $1k, and can stretch to $1.5k. Right now looking at the Acer Aspire Aspire C22-865 AIO. Just wondering if there are any other builds/assembled pcs that is bang-for-buck?

If you don't want the hassle of troubleshooting in the event something fails, just pick a system from branded system builders.

DIY may give you bang for buck but ultimately you might spend more time on it if something doesn't work.

You can also consider for a combo of laptop + monitor if the kids need to bring a laptop to school ?

you can go for i3 nuc + ram + crucial bx500 ssd + used monitor for about $650.

for laptop go for acer swift. even the cheapest $600 one which use n4000 is responsive and has more than 10h battery

If you want another laptop you can get those china ones (like xiaoma 31) using n3450 or n4100 for about $300. they have 8h battery and full hd ips screen.

so with ~$1500 you can get 3 pc all from lazada

If you’re not going to play games $1,000 is way overkill. You can probably get it cheaper.

I will suggest you go the diy route only if you’re interested in computer hardware as there might be some light troubleshooting and maintenance that has to be handled by yourself. But honestly, even those prebuilt pc it’s good to service them yourself as Long as don’t void the warranty.

Thanks for the suggestions. Dont need a laptop so would rather spend the $$ on a larger screen. Never really had much problem with diy route, other than choosing the components ;p The Acer Aspire C22-865 AIO seems like the cheapest decent option and is pre-built. A bigger screen would be nice, but otherwise dont think diy can get any better than that, for that price point?

Won't really recommend AIO as they don't tend to last long imo. But if you are comfortable with it, then go for it.

That acer is a bad buy. No ssd, no graphic card and 4gb ram...u can buy a build ready ryzen 2600 with 6gb gtx 1060 graphics card, 250gb ssd and 8gb ram now for $700++.

I think buy NUC plus sone parts upgrade plus kbm plus anymore monitor u like gives u compact space, flexibility n within ur budget

just get a 8GB ram, 256GB SSD, and maybe OS(save the money and go Linux instead), the remaining amt can go to a monitor, should have some savings from that 1k budget

I would be more worried for the kids going to Owndays 1 year later with 24" LED screen.... Better keep track of yearly school health eye test results.

Laptop screen size is the best though

Haha...am thinking that they can sit back further from the screen with a larger screen. Seems like NUC is recommended, will consider that vs diy itx build. Thanks guys.

of course hoping to spend as little as possible, but looking at price lists...a basic set with OS/monitor will cost at least $750?

I found a really cheap mini pc (Beelink), but am worried that it will be too laggy and storage space is really limited. I guess its worth to spend more for the performance as I will use it for years till it konks out. My latest computer is at least 6 years old already

No worries there. Its more for school work.
