looking to revamp friend current setup and will be reusing some of the parts from it
total budget to be under $1k
will revolve the system based on the new i5
can be either matx and atx size
reusing my hdd,psu and monitor
so the $1k will be required for:
i5 and mobo combo
gfx card
ram
casing

bros please recommend!

Hmm 1k Reusing HDD PSU and monitor.

If the PSU is over 3-4 years old, might wanna consider to change it also. Not worth reusing it.

For parts

ASrock h81M DGS + i5-4430 ~ $287
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz ~ $89
Reuse HDD
Sandisk Extreme Plus 128gb ~ $130
Powercolor r9 270 2gb ~ $260
Seasonic G550 550w 80+ Gold Semi Modular PSU ~ $125
Sharkoon BD28 ~ $77
Reuse ODD if it is SATA

Total ~ $968. Buy at tradepac. DIY

Optional

Crucial m500 240gb ~ $155 (amazon) it will be a better option over Sandisk with more storage space.

If the Chassis is OOS can consider Fractal Design Arc Midi instead at $129. More solid and worth for its pricing.

IF PSU is still new can consider pumping the rest of the budget for Powercolor r9 280X Turbo Duo.

Alu is quite ex. But since you do not need the ssd then can go for lianli pc 7hxw for about $169 from mynextcomonline

This chassis is aluminium and almost no tools needed to work with. And also with good quality alu.

Matx depends on the chipset also. But since it is h81m its an entry level board. It is the cheapest.

Got 'm' behind the chipset code like z87, H81, B85, H87 indicates its MATX mobo. W/o 'm' means ATX.
