Hi all,

My friend is looking to have a pc built for him.

Budget would be about $1.5k.
This is first desktop so he would need all esstential item eg Keyboard, mouse, monitor speakers, OS etc.

He would be mainly using it for gaming and web-surfing!

Any recommendation for his requirement?

1.5k for aaa games with all the accessories very hard. Ask him to up his budget to 2k.

Add 329 for 144hz monitor and add 300 for mouse, keyboard and headset. Reduce ssd to 120gb purely for os, reduce hdd to 1tb. Will probably exceed 2k by abit

Important question is also at what settings on games at what targeted frame rates ?

get 2nd hand parts ba.. the gpu and ram prices are absurd. lol.. my pc bought for like 800$.. equivalent to that 1.5k LOL..

Why AMD ? if Intel which processor recommend?

Because in mid-range, the Ryzen 5 2600 and 2600X are the best bang for buck for a swiss-army-type CPU. Play games, do photo/video editing, the whole kitchen sink etc

But agree with Wataru. It's just simply more worth. R5 2600 has 6c12t as i5 has 6c6t only. AMD can overclock to all cores 4ghz, where as Intel equivalent chip is locked and cannot overclock for better speed. Stock fan given by AMD is much better too. You can do so much more other than gaming with the AMD chip. Get the 2600X variant if you can, more worth, better clocks, better stock fan.

All in all, you get more with what you pay with AMD than Intel.

Ryzen can do everything. Intel is better at gaming. So just take your pick.

I'll take overclock 6c12t 4ghz over turbo boost 1c2t 4.1ghz of i5-8500 anytime.

Small sacrifice at gaming, win at everything. Sounds good to me.

I am upgrading from my faulty i5-3470, I already have a GTX 1060 6GB, and a 750gb SSD within a Sharkoon T28 MIDI ATX.
