Can install at door.
Can install at gate or not ?
In-between your gate n door for cctv is legal, at corridor is illegal. Even if legal, cannot point directly to your neighbours house. That is why people buy video doorbell. So when people complain, they can say it is a doorbell with video capabilities so that when they not at home can instruct the delivery guy to keep the parcel in the shoes cabinet.
If those house with unit facing each other one, TAPO doorbell got the angle bracket, so u can tilt the angle away point to lift corridor there. Atleast people will not be so sensitive of u pointing camera at them.

So if I manage to attach the doorbell to my gate, it is illegal ?
Our door is usually open (so no point attaching it there) but we are in our rooms, so don't know what's going on outside.
We don't have any neighbour's door or window facing us

Doorbell can put outside. CCTV cannot
Take note, when buying video doorbell make sure the doorbell can view the camera when u need. Cos there are some which only can view camera when people press the bell.

I just bought the TAPO one last week not yet installed outside my door. Still testing it in the house, if OK then replace my existing video doorbell.

The angle bracket really good, better view, can angle towards or away from neighbor door.
Anyway I put Privacy Zone black rectangle at their door so can't see inside, better for me in terms of culpability and them in terms of privacy.

idk why they said so. its IP64 ratings and widely used overseas on landed homes
the only concern is your network reception/signal, depending on the positioning of your hub and doorbell

https://www.tapo.com/sg/product/smart-camera/tapo-d230s1/
  • Water & Dust Resistant IP64: Operates well on rainy days and in damp environments.
U using the Lan cable connect to hub or using wireless huh? Don know is it gd reception or not. I haven't got time to test.

how's your $43 one doing so far? oso record on sd card?
Very good

records on SD card and cloud for 3 days

but recordings no use la? only records up to 30 secs clip upon motion detection

if you want 24hr recording, best to do up a wired one

When compare Tapo to Xiaomi webcam, I found 2 shortcomings:

Using H264 instead of H265. Doesn't support NAS

wireless, i put in masterbed room resulting to slightly poor doorbell signal (2 long walls penetration) but still workable without issues
Router -35, Doorbell -55 RSSI

another hack is to buy a USB booster cable 5V -> 9V to power the hub via USB instead (eg. multiport charger) instead of wasting a power socket slot
