Recommend CPU + GFX for Photo Editing

My current box: H170M-E D3 +Intel G4560 + 16 GB RAM is obviously not sufficient for photo editing with Luminar (or others).

To fulfill my need:

1. Should I get second hand i7-6700 (used $300) and get additional graphic card?
2. Or, what will be the best combination of 6/7th Gen Intel CPU with Graphic card given my max budget of $500?


PS: I am already using SSD HDD.

No point spending $300 on a used 4C/8T CPU for photo editing.

You can consider the new Ryzen 3XXX series, and the Gigabyte B450 Aorus M motherboard for S$102 from Amazon Prime.

Very valid point. I'm thinking to stick to Intel, just because I don't want to sell all over my motherboard + cpu. But i think your suggestion for the i7-7700K is definitely interesting.

On one hand, should i get a low-profile of GTX 1050/1060 (limited due to casing) for around ~200-ish ?

If by low profile, you mean something like this, there is no low profile GTX 1060. The GTX 1050Ti is the best available but rather expensive ATM. I won't bother with anything lower as even the GTX 1050Ti is quite limited in performance.

Only very few filters benefit from GPU acceleration, especially on Luminar. Invest in more RAM

very valid point. It seems, I have to focus on getting better CPU first. G4560 is really showing its lack of power in this situation.
