Besides IKEA, what's a good place to shop for dining tables?

Budget for 4-6 seaters $1000-$1500

IKEA dining tables, depending on the price and the table top finish - is hit and miss.

For the lower end tables, the table top tends to wear out quite quickly, easily getting chips/scratches and gouges if you don't use a protective covering.

With the above damages, water can seep/penetrate the (usually) fiberboard or MDF material, allowing it to absorb moisture and bloat from expansion, making the surface lumpy/bumpy.

Go see their As-Is section where they resell display pieces at a cheaper price - most of the dining tables have the above damages, and ths is just from people walking through the display sets and trying the furniture, not from day to day use like pushing bowls and plates across the table top, accidentally dropping hard items or hot food spills.

You get what you pay for.

For budget friendly options consider :
1. fortytwo.sg
Online brand with a physical shop at raffles city (city hall mrt) for one of its sub-brand

2. Comfortdesign
Warehouse/showroom at sungei kadut. Wide range of designs and price range. They supply to many f&b (food court, fast food, toast box, etc) and some offices.

3. Novena furniture
Sub-brand (and best performing segment) of Scan Teak. Targeted at the budget conscious and doing very well for the family biz

4. Star Living
Competitor to Novena furniture, same focus on budget conscious

5. Courts
OEM furniture, wide margin so try to bargain hard. Generally competitively priced. Key market is the our friends celebrating a PH soon. :)

Not sure if you could find something that you like.

We went to check out Ikea, Harvey Norman Millenia Walk, Courts Heeren and Castlery.

HipVan and IUIGA both are a bit CMI for their display models.
