Recommend DIY Build for basic use

Dear Guru(s),

I am planning to upgrade & DIY a basic pc for my spouse, who use the pc generally for FB, online games from FB, internet browsing, watching drama. Budget around $500 if possible.
May I request for recommendations please.

Do you need Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse?

$500, maybe better to get 2nd hand laptop?

Purely full budget build, just for surfing net, watch youtube.

All from PCThemes:
Mobo+CPU: MSI H310M Pro M2 + Intel G5400: $201
Ram: Kingston 2400MHz 1x 4GB: $65
HDD: Toshiba 1TB 7200RPM: $53
PSU: FSP Hyper K 500W: $69
Casing: TecWare Core [Lazada/Dynacore]: $32~
Mouse+Keyboard Combo: $20~
Brandless WiFi Adaptor from Lazada: $8.27
Total: $448.27

Could probably switch PSU to Thermaltake Lite 450W and save $14. Don't know will explode anot, but can try.

Can choose to upgrade Ram to Kingston 2400MHz 1x 8GB for extra $60
If so, you can just drop PSU to the Thermaltake and upgrade Ram to 8GB. Total still $494.27.

Should even be able to run MapleStory for her to play lol.

Hi, FroztSpectre, thanks for recommendation. My bad for not indicating what I need, and things that I do not need with existing.

Items I need,
1) MOBO + CPU,
2) RAM 8GB if need DDR4 (existing has DDR3)
3) Casing
4) Graphic Card mid-range one, if built-in not so good and able to squeeze into budget.

Other items do not need as using existing like HDD, PSU, KB + Mouse, Monitor.

Why do you need a gpu for fb games?

May actually be good idea. A used Thinkpad with a dock, then just connect to monitor since TS has other peripherals already

Maybe can consider NUC J5005 from amazon. Then get the rest of the parts locally

Thank you all for the comments and feedback thus far, below are my comment,

- why need GPU for FB game
just a thought for a better graphic experience if the on-board video spec if not good enough.

- to consider a 2nd laptop
I am not too keen into a used laptop. I prefers to build with a more to-date system.

- to consider mini pc, example Zotac / NUC J5005
Again not keen on the idea of mini pc. Prefers traditional pc parts whereby it is easier to troubleshoot and replace parts later when necessary.

Even CS/Lightweight MOBA games dont require a dedicated GPU, i HIGHLY doubt- nvm, I can tell you straight up fb games do NOT need a dedicated GPU lol.

You wont see any 'graphical improvements' as the integrated gpu can already run these tiny fb games at full capacity. You're just wasting your money. :s22:

And as people below have mentioned already, putting tgt a pc without the dGPU will set you back 500 sgd alr. Either you up your budget if you really think one is necessary, or just go with your original idea. My advice is unless you're thinking of playing ACTUAL games like Overwatch and not those tiny browser based ones like Fb, dont waste your money with dGPUs. Since you mentioned it for your spouse, I highly doubt she'd need a pc that's suited for gaming rather than normal browsing.

-video quality for drama playback etc depends on the monitor you use, not the dGPU as well.

Just get this. You can even forgo the hdd and change to a 240gb SSD instead for better overall responsiveness

Yeap what this guy said is right. Better get the ssd. Top up around $50 depending on which model you are going for.

Thanks for the recommended parts/build, I will look into it.
Btw, what is a recommended basic SSD (brand/model) for my intended build?
(Just to share, actually my initial plan does not include to buy any hard-disk as existing I already has 2 pieces of 2TB 7200rpm Sata HDD.)

Next if I may ask regards the mentioned MOBO, MSI H310M Pro M2, what will be a second alternative recommendation other than MSI? As I had once bad experienced with MSI in one of my old build.

There's a reason many of us recommending ssd, even if is it SATA based ssd rather than the faster nvme.

Trust us, just get it for a boot drive and you will never look back
