I just realised I actually have a 500GB 2.5" HDD from my PS4 (I upgraded to 1TB)

What's a good enclosure to use for this HDD?
hoping to get a USB3.0 one and a Y-Cable to be used with my WiiU

(or is there a powered one?)

There are many in the market with different chipset. Not all comes with Y cable. 2.5" need only 5v supply and thus can be powered by usb port, no external supply is required.

I am using one NEO casing, found speed slower than no brand one from 6th floor WorldWide Computer.

Would recommend you NexStar G 2.5 Vantec NST-266S3-BK NexStar G 2.5" SATA III to USB3.0 SSD and HDD External Enclosure - MSY Online

I have been using this 2,5 enclosure with my USB 3.0 Windows 8 Lenovo laptop. Having UASP (with also the host USB 3.0 controller support) would allow iSCSI over USB connection to provide the best bandwidth available.

thanks! any idea how much is that?

thanks for the reply!

just to give more details

I'm using the Enclosure for the 500GB HDD I took out of my PS4. I need a Y-Cable because the WiiU does not seem to supply enough power via its USB ports :/ I ended up going with this

Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure
Amazon.com: Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure: Electronics

Is it okay? My only concerns were it being USB2.0 and SATAII... but the WiiU only supports USB2.0... would the difference between SATAII and SATAIII be negligible then?

also,
hmm. I do have some media content on my HDD that the other PCs at home would access though. like photos and etc - would a NAS be recommended then?
I'm also hoping to make it a good backup setup... so I won't lose my photos and stuff...

I'm thinking of how to transfer the files over though >< would a HDD Docking Station help? which would be a good one?

The design look like my no-brand one bought from WorldWide Computer a few years back. Speed is faster than the NEO one.

It's the chipset of the controller that matters :) Not all USB3.0 has the right chipset to provide UASP which gives the power of USB3.0. If the no brand one works, it's doesn't matter too :)

I'm afraid I can't provide more than what I have tested and used with. I believe you can easily get a Y-cable attachment from sim lim square to get sufficient power.

USB2.0 max is around 25MBps, it will be the bottleneck of nearly all sequential access, but not random access. However USB2.0 protocol does not have efficient encoding protocol, so the random access suffers too.

What kind of actual (not theoretical) transfer speed are you getting out of this enclosure for Read and Write i.e. how many MBps?
