Recommend laptop for video editing

Hi all,

I am looking to buy a used(most likely on carousell) laptop for video editing (most intense work) under $700. Im not sure if this budget is sufficient, do let me know its insufficient. I dont mind the weight or brand.

I dont do alot of video editing but that is the most resource intense work i would do once a while. Just family videos. So nothing serious. Not 4k.

$700 is a bit too less for a decent laptop. I suggest go get a new one with 2y warranty from Aftershock. Choose the Apex 15R lite (6 core processor and gtx1650) with 16gb of ram. Your video editing will be quite good. It's the best value for the buck I've seen.

Go for lenovo legion 5 and configure yourself, much better value than Aftershock, if u can wait up to 8 weeks.
With promo code, it will be so much($100) cheaper and more value than their apex 15r.
Extra 1TB hdd, 16GB ram instead of 8GB, ONSITE warranty at $120, cheaper than apex 15r. You can lower the price also if u want to buy the base spec version.

any ryzen 4500u laptop will do.

i edit 4k using 2400G and 4500u is faster

Not sure what video editing software that you will be using. If you are planning to use Davinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere, get one with a discrete gpu would be good. The video editor can make use of the gpu for video encoding.

Beware buying used laptop, nowadays video editing software are mostly advance with recent gpu performance (some gpu model undetectable) - you may look into supported gpu. Thus, used laptop probably may expect symptom alike lagging, fan noise, etc. Parts replacement are not flexible alike Desktop PC. Yes, there are plenty used laptop advertised in Carousell, would you at this point think about the laptop warranty. Get a new set Laptop rather. Hope it help in your decision
