Your budget too small for proper mechanical keyboard. Just get a filco or topre keyboard

If you don't mind an ugly looking one, Cybermind sells one for 129 I think. Cherry switches if I'm not wrong, blue and red available.

Otherwise, previously extreme solutions was selling a Ducky for 99. Not sure if still have.

Or can try the ThermalTake Poseidon Z. I'm using that now and so far so good. No cherry switches but 5 yr warranty by convergent systems. Though some complain that keys repeat itself after a while. The backlight you have to manually turn off every time you on the computer though. For me I put a little ALU tape beneath the keys so the light can no longer shine through. Sold at tecdrome for 114 cash only.

Otherwise, suggest you cough up 30 bucks more and get a Filco. However don't make the assumption that it'll last a life time... My Filco spoilt after 4 years :(

You want lifetime, you get a Model M. You can use it to pia jui and then go home and plug it in to use after that. However, BS are not for everyone.

Why do people keep wanting to buy mechanical keyboards when they don't even know the feel of the different (Cherry and clones) switches?

Topre does not really count as mechanical in my book.

Yup. But back when mech kbs first came out they said the keys would last ten years or more :s13: I guess that could be true but then PCB was the one that failed me.

Yep, best to try the switches beforehand. I tried the ducky cherry brown switches at XS but it felt really mushy for some reason (relative to the Filco). So I went to try the Poseidon Z at Cybermind. The feeling was much better even though it uses kailh switches. Then I found that Tecdrome has the cheapest price so I just got it there. Its full nkro over usb as well so its good value for money. Anyway there's an rgb version as well for a couple dollars more. Supports 5kro and nkro so that it will be able to support Mac OS. The blue backlight on the Z is really glaring so I would really suggest the rgb version.

Lol, best comment of the year.

When Filco and Topre is out of the 'proper' league...

TS: I'd guess you are looking for standard layout Red Key. Ducky Shine, Rosewill.. Filco.. I'd guess all these from the 2nd hand market will work for your budget.

Rosewill avoid at all cost.. Seriously rubbish...

Ducky Shine led always kaput.

Topre 2nd hand is ard 200 plus. New will cost ard 300plus.. seriously out of TS budget.

TS can consider getting a Tesoro durandal that is using cherry mx keys at caraohell. Someone is selling at 50bucks and change the key caps.

if buy 2nd hand then must change to new keycaps or wash with soap every single key caps. Hygiene rah.

My Rosewill is lasting a long time :s22:

I don't see why it is "improper"

Improper to me means trying to be what it is not, I.E. trying to feel like a mech keyboard but isn't one (not talking about topre here)
