This PC show I am looking into getting a NAS for home use to store my files, photos and videos.

At first I was very inclined to get the WD My Cloud which seems like the cheapest option. I'm not reading good user reviews about it though. Looking at other NAS with storage bays, and I can't seem to tell the difference.

Which NAS provides a good file manipulation UI and can provide 4-6TB within a $500 budget? I have Mac and windows PCs as well as iPhone and Android phones within my family which hopefully all devices can access the files.
