Looking for a mixed use PC (Gaming/work) Budget 3k
Thinking of the below specs 1TB SSB, (16 or 32 Gb ram)

Recommend me pls, just CPU no monitors etc needed thanks!

I am looking at this in aftershock for comparison... thought I find 24 GB GPU an overkill. I have never tried Lexar/Lancer brand.. any comments pls? Anyone compared before vs simlim vs fortran, which is more value? Thanks

$3299

AMD RYZEN 7 7800X3D Processor

The aftershock one isn't like the worst but you have less flexibility on choice of motherboard and GPU

Wow, nowadays graphic card took up half of the system budget.... :frown:

Oh the Asus PSU is not because I am Asus fanboy or anything (I actually don't like Asus) but because it tests really well at the prices you can get a typical 850W unit

This is the same unit just with Gundam branding on it.

You can get the 7900 or 7800X3D with water-cooling, however they don't really need it as both these CPUs don't actually pull a lot of power, they can perform just fine with a dual tower (which are actually performing really well already)

Thank you for this.. also may I ask any preference for choosing asrock/sapphire?

Previously I only used msi/gigabyte mobo and GPU.. seems gigabyte more durable for me.. I have not tried other brands .. thanks

Sorry for late reply

Main reason for choosing the ASRock B650E PG Riptide is the value for money

You get
1. B650E chipset (meaning PCIe 5.0 x16), while GPUs don't even use the 5.0 x 16 to max potential, it is the cheapest motherboard with B650E chipset
2. 3 M.2 slots (cheaper B650/B650E mobos are mostly mATX with 2 M.2 slots), one kinda slow at PCIe 3 x2 but it should still be faster than most SATA SSDs and should be perfectly fine for mass storage (paired with say a Crucial P3 Plus)
3. Solid VRM and 8 layer PCB at the price (same VRM as B650 Livemixer, verified to have more than enough capacity to handle a 7950X), I use a 7950X with the B650E PG Riptide myself with no issues
4. PCIe 3 x4 slot all the way of the bottom of the board, connected to CPU (more breathing space for GPU if PCIe is all the way at the bottom)
5. You can add/replace all the M.2 SSDs without removing GPU (other mobos have M.2 SSDs at locations where you have to remove the GPU to access)

Nearest price competitors are ASUS TUF B650M Gaming Plus WiFi, MSI MAG B650M Mortar WiFi and Gigabyte Aorus B650M Elite AX, and for the most part the ASRock board is more well featured and of a better value than the other 3 boards.

If you don't like the ASRock, Gigabyte Aorus B650M Elite AX is an alternative choice, though at a higher price you do lose out on the PCIe 5 x16, additional M.2 slot, less accessible M.2 for future expansion, less PCIe slots though you get more USB ports.

For GPU, chose Sapphire the Nitro+ seems to be cheaper than the Pulse and it is the higher power, more overclocked version of the 7900XTX. This is a popular card among 7900XTX users, and since it is cheaper/at the same price as the Gigabyte 7900XTX Gaming OC and MSI 7900XTX Gaming Trio Classic it is almost a no brainer, probably the only issue you will face is the shorter Sapphire warranty.

For the Intel system, the reason for the MSI board is that the VRM is more than enough for even the i9-13900K and it should have most features you really need on a Z790 board. It's also among the cheapest Z790 boards, and compared to the Asus Z790-P Prime, is a superior board with better VRM for cheaper. You do get less USB ports compared to say a B650E PG Riptide but depending on user, may be enough.

$3299

AMD RYZEN 7 7800X3D Processor

AFTERSHOCK Glacier Mirror 360mm Watercooling - ID Cooling

Gigabyte B650M Gaming X AX (Entry Level and they go for M size motherboard which is cheaper than ATX)

AMD RADEON RX 7900XTX (MBA Edition) 24GB

32GB ADATA Lancer RGB DDR5 6000MHz (16x2)

2TB Lexar NM710 GEN4 SSD Doesn't have good review

850W Deepcool 80+ Gold

Wireless + Bluetooth Included

Aftershock Zeal Showcase Edition (VXL) - Tecware VXR (Around $10X)

Windows 11 Home 64 Bit *Unactivated*

Recommend you to go Sim Lim Square get quote.
The specs isn't worth $3.2k since some of the parts are entry level like the SSD and the case.
At that price would have also include Windows 11 license but it isn't the case.

Maybe because the graphic card itself already cost $1.8k so the rest of the parts they choose
as cheap as possible to fit within $3.2k.

Thank you for this.. I find your build is well researched.. how do you even keep on top of the market unless this is part of your job.. because I compared some stuffs like the casing you recommend vs Fractual Torrent and the case you recommend has better performance/price.. also can I ask where did you get all the price? Where do you recommend to buy?

Hi Bro, I was looking through those SLS pricelist in HWZ and compared to Aftershock too,, I like aftershock for the ease of warranty but many parts not avail... agreed GPU so expensive these days... first crypto mining, and now AI pushing up prices. The specs for this price is actually ok, its more expensive in most i seen.

if u are willing to pay for that price then aftershock is not that bad... with warranty and everything...
but if u thinking to save and have more ideas on improving the build then should go to sls ask a few shops for quote....
what u see in the price list is not 100% coz sometimes sold out and price go up..

This build is much better than Aftershock.
TS can consider something similar.
