Hi guys, my current rig of 3 years, has been giving me BSOD every now and then. Guess its time for me to do a major overhaul.

Need some recommendation here. My main purpose is only surfing and watching 720/1080 videos. However, being a US drama fan, i store most of my drama from Season 1 onwards. Im not into gaming, but occasionally can make do with lowest setting, just nice for me to complete the game will do.

I dont need monitor (still using my 24 inch lcd)
I have a sound card (asus xonar) but under utilise.
Im currently using ADATA ssd 128gb, 1 x 3tb hbb, and 2 x 2tb hdd (storage really not enough)
Im using Windows 7 home premium bought from Malaysia (needs to activate thru phone call, quite troublesome)
My dvd drive is still intact despite the low usage.
My PSU iirc, it is the seasonic one, maybe 480 or 520watt? Can re-use?

I need a casing that can hold 3 to 4 hdd and 1 ssd. Is this the way people store the HD stuffs nowadays by getting those 4tb hdd? Do i hold on to my win 7 or get a OEM one?

That is all i can remember as of now. I am terrible and not up to date in PC hardware, but i saw a few good SSD deal on amazon, will probably get a 256gb or 512gb one from amazon. Not sure if i should get everything from Tradepac and get it assemble on one of the forummer shop in SLS? Or get fortran to DIY for me? Please advise

Sorry for the long text.

Budget between 700-1k :)

Since not gaming much then just skip having a graphics card.
Why don't you try to find out the cause of your bsod first instead of building a new rig?

I would recommend that you do some troubleshooting first before jump the gun.

Troubleshoot a few things. What I noticed is that you got a lot of mechanical HDD. I got a feeling that your HDD may be failing.

HDD - Download Crystal disk info. Run it and see what does all your HDD health says about it.

RAM - Download memtest86 and store inside a USB thumbdrive, set it as a boot drive and boot using the thumbdrive, it will bring up a blue color screen and do the test from there. Let it run for a few hours and see if there is any error occur. If there is, high chance that you may receive random bsod.

CPU - Download Prime95 and RealTemp and run it. Run the stress test and see how high does the temperature spikes up to. On idle you should be receiving around 43deg-45deg. On load you should be getting around 70deg-78deg.

GPU - Download Furmark and run it. During the test you will see a temperature chart going upwards. When it blue screen, do check what temperature is it at. Also do check if there is any form of artefact during the test.

Sound card - Do check that whether are you on the latest drivers.
