Recommend me cheap Rig

Hi guys,

helping my friend to ask as it is meant for his dad to watch show and play facebook games connected to the LCD TV.

Also, to save space, hoping for the casing to be as compact as possible.

I think since it is for basic use, i think budget 700 and below can ma?
Windows and monitor not required.


MB: ASROCK H71M with 3470 = $315
ODD: LG DVD-RW SATA = $25
HD: Seagate 1TB 32MB = $83
RAM: Corsair Ram 1333mhz 4GB = $46 * 2
GPU: ??
PSU: ??
CASE: ??


Any better recommendation? I suck at choosing haha

Can go for itx setup. The smallest space constrain

Msi b75ia e33 itx + intel pentium g2120 ~ $189
Kingston value ram 4gb ~ $45
WD 500gb blue ~ $70
Jonsbo v2 itx with 300w psu ~ $99

Total $403, build at tradepac. You dont need a gpu. And you dont need an i5 or an i3. Just go for pentium.

This will be the barebone htpc

He wants a better specification de, so maybe minimum $600 to max $700..

What he intends to do? Why go higher if he is just watching movies?

WiFi no issues. can get dongle at $20.

Watch shows and Facebook games don't require quad core CPU. Anyway, his budget is rather low so don't expect too much.

Maybe you want to ask him what are his exact needs for the PC? If just watching shows and Facebook games, intel pentium processor is good enough.

Basically he wont feel any difference in speed if he is just facebook-ing games, or just watching movies.


Buying or building a pc with a powerful specs and not using its capabilities is just gonna waste their money.
