Recommend mini-ITX setup for HD streaming only

i just ordered the NUC Celeron version off amazon.com for 164.99. Looks like a good deal I wonder why this cant be found in SG...gotta ship via comgateway though.

Cancelled my order cos scared the celeron nuc too slow for my needs. Went the bq660s and b75 chipset route with G series intel cpu instead.

I notice that most itx builds are really running low -entry level processors, thus I guess heat is really the big issue in this case?

Not true. my > 2 year old rig was already running sandy bridge i5, SSD and 560ti then.

The things you probably cant do with mini ITX setup would be sli/cross fire.

Why you don't try trying Zotac ZBOX? There's AMD APU to Intel Core i3 version. You can get them from Cybermind

it depends on your needs...if u wanna build an itx build for gaming, you will need to get a bigger case (even for itx cases the sizes vary greatly) with a full size ATX power supply, enough space for a good gfx card and other cooling options.

i don't game so it makes more sense for me to get a case as small as possible and a cpu thats sufficient for my needs.

hmm...heard zotac overpriced...actually might as well customize and choose your own components right...its like buying a branded dell desktop or going to SLS and build a custom rig.

Lots of people use Intel & AMD K series for itx builds without any heat issues.

For compact & very small cases, best not to OC.

If OC, even mid towers & full towers also will have heat issues.

Self DIY is still the best, cheaper and choose what you like.
Alternatively you can try amazon.com, normally it's cheaper

I would suggest the buyer to add up the individual components offered by Zotac Zbox and compare with buying the components off shelf. Also the physical size and ease of setup will be the biggest factor when compared to other DIY setup.

i bought my items thru best buy in SLS. Uncle help me set up FOC...only thing is it took way longer than expected for the hw setup since there were many bros in front of me in the queue.

Recently, I installed twonky pro on my dlink nas dns320 and 320L. Twonky is better than the default one from dlink. Now, twonky supported subtitle stream from my nas.

So, if DLNA streaming is what you are after, nas plus twonky may be a more economical and versatile solution.

On pc, you can use more sophisticated stuffs like xbmc, but it's more clunky and you still need your pc to host the file or store them in nas anyway.

My set up is twonky as DLNA server on nas.
Skifta player on android gadgets from android tv boxes to tablets or smartphones.
