Hello guys, I'm planning to get a computer for my dad. He only use it to watch videos, surf net.. Storage wise he prefers to have more. 500-600 enough? Needs OS. Anyone to contact to help me fix it up cos I don't really know much about these and in case troubles start arising in the future.

No... Just get an internal laptop 2.5" drive and install it inside can liao.

Anwyay, this is a passively cooled alternative that is slightly smaller. No fans or what not

My rationale for getting external HDD instead of internal one is for flexibility. He can choose to buy both 3.5" and 2.5" external HDDs of all sizes rather than being stucked within the limitations of a 2.5" internal HDD.

On another note, Ivy Bridge CULV will offer better mileage than Bay Trail with much faster single thread performance and its IGP...

USB drives don't match up to the transfer rates of SATA, but the main advantage is that it keeps everything together. When you have no idea what you're doing and the person who's going to use it is clueless too, just put everything in a box instead of having things stick out. (like USB vs PCI-E WIFI adapters) The less drivers you have to deal with, the better.

Ivy Bridge will perform better than Bay trail but the main advantage is the smaller size and passive cooling (one less thing to go wrong)
