Hi guys,

First of all please forgive me if there is a better place for this but I couldn't find a subforum for video.

So, I need to capture video off my TV and have done some research which tells me I also need some sort of capture hardware. I have a home server running on an Intel G2030 and connected to the TV via HDMI. This is where the recording is intended to be stored.

Requirements are simple and straightforward; just grab whatever is on the screen. At least 720p at 60fps. That's it. Interface can be either PCI (HDMI) or USB3. No need to tune into anything, no need to schedule anything, no need to process or compress anything or any fancy features. With these in mind, can someone recommend the cheapest capture hardware I can buy (either from SLS, eBay or Amazon)?

Cheerio,
Nicholas

What you want is a TV tuner card. These cards comes with PCI, PCI-E and USB(not recommended due to limited bandwidth of the USB 2 port, resulting in bad quality video) connections. They are spilt into three categories:

1)TV tuner card only
2)Pure video capture card
3)TV tuner card with recording function(records signals into a hard drive of your choosing)

These cards are frequently lumped into the 'TV Tuner card' category by major online retailers. Some major hardware retailers in SLS may also have such cards but you may have to ask around as such cards are usually not in the price list.

For research, there is a large TV tuner card thread under the subforum 'PC Speakers, Printers, Keyboards, Mice and Other Accessories'. Try reading through the thread to get an idea of what you want.

You can get things like the Hauppauge Colossus (selling mine), the avermedia solutions etc. There are those portable ones too by the same companies listed. Hauppauge and Avermedia. These will set you back >$200

If you're willing to try non-branded one, there is this japanese and chinese chard that costs ~$100 USD and $90 USD respectively. Never tried them though but they do work from what some other users reported.
