Just thought I'll add on to this thread instead of starting a new one since my current specs are pretty similar to TS. I'm thinking of upgrading my processor and graphic card and will like some advice:

1) I'm using a GTX 560 and thinking of upgrading to a GTX 770. Currently still deciding between 2GB vs 4GB of VRAM because I'm using a 2560x1440p monitor. I read that 4GB of VRAM will be need for more AA but some have said that 2GB is enough. Considering futureproofing into the equation, should I pay more and go for 4GB if I want to play with AA?

2) I'm using a i5-2500k processor now and Win Experience Index showed that the processor is the bottleneck in my system. Wondering if I should change to an Ivy bridge i5 or i7 for futureproofing as I do not want to change my motherboard 1 to 2 years down the road when I change my processor to haswell or broadwell. Do you think the 2500k can last me when i do intensive gaming at highest level for the next 2 years (graphic card upgrades are more of an non issue as the sockets are the same) or should i buy a Ivy bridge now before they are sold out?

If thinking of 770, get the 280x 3gb... good for ur gaming needs.

As for i5-2500k, still useful for nw, but i think u need to change it at least from next yr onwards le.

Wait for new cpu to be announced, see whether compatible with 1150 mobo or not.

i compared the price of 770 4GB vs 280x 3GB on Amazon and saw that the 770 4GB is selling cheaper (US$380 for 770 compared to US$400 for 280x). Been reading comparisons online and it seems that on average, 770 gives slightly higher FPS compared to 280x, but otherwise, their performances are almost identical. Hence I decided on 770 instead. Question now is 2gb or 4gb

I agree that the 2500k is still usable now, but I don't want to change my motherboard and processor next year if ivy bridge processors are not available. Rather upgrade now, and save the pain of upgrading motherboard, and hopefully no need to worry until 2, 3 years later when a new socket type is out. Meaning I'll like to skip over the current Haswell, Broadwell socket, and the two options now are to stay with my 2500k all the way, or upgrade to an Ivy bridge now. Not sure which is better from a money-value point of view.

Dun compare in amazon la... miners r pushing prices up.. 280x locally is ard $440-480, 770 is ars $490-550. 770 still cheaper?

2500k is a very good CPU, just get a good cooler and OC it to 4.5Ghz for 24/7 usage. It will match all the latest i5 chip.

If he get Haswell 4670k now is waste money. There is no diff in performance between the 2 except PCIE 3.0. For his application, 2500k is more than powerful enough.

Although broadwell uses the same socket, the motherboard will not be compatible in other areas (voltage requirement etc) so broadwell and haswell mobo will be different. Skylake will probably use 1151 socket, so also different. I think best will be to skip over haswell and broadwell and jump straight to Skylake.

Looking at tradepac, Powercolor R9 280x 3GB is only $425. Hmm, I will need to do more digging before deciding on the 770. Thanks for the tip.

My skills only extend to putting together a PC haha, I dunno how to OC, especially to OC it safely so that the CPU can last long. I only got the 2500k because it was only slightly more ex than the 2500 when I bought it. If there is not much difference between the ivy bridge series and sandy bridge series, then no point upgrading. May as well just stick with it.
