Recommendation for a gaming/animating rig.

My budget is roughly 2k SGD for a gaming, animating and rendering rig.

Preferably inclusive of a FHD monitor and without a SSD.

Do you have an SSD? If no please buy one especially it helps on your rendering programs and other softwares also.

First of all, thank you royfrosty for the recommendation. Looks great.

But I have a few quick questions. (sorry noob here )

I don't have a SSD because I find it comparatively expensive. Does it really help in rendering speed? I know SSD boost start-up and loading speed greatly but I kind of can live without the boost.

Oh and I've notice there isn't any additional CPU cooling fan. I'm kind of worried as my room is hot at times, will it be better to get one or the default fan is good enough?

And lastly, for the chip-set you recommended B85, any reasons you choose it over H87 chip? The price seems close if I'm not mistaken.

PS: I've heard from people that for GPUs it's better to pair Intel-Nvdia or AMD-ATI, is it ture?

b85 is good enough. You dont need the raid feature of h87. The stock fan should be good enough to keep the cpu cool since you are not getting an unlocked processor and overclocking. Intel can pair with amd or nvidia just fine. People just prefer intel + nvidia because both are the more expensive part.(intel more expensive than AMD in US but not here in singapore) Amd + ati is for people who want lower priced components. The market here in singapore is different though.

You wont need the H87 chipset if you are not going to use RAID functions and a few more extra SATA ports.

No you do not need an extra cooling for the cpu. Stock is enough as you are not doing any form of overclocking.

Its fine to put any AMD or Nvidia card with intel cpu.

I have just built a similar rig days before and run some test. With regards to render speed I can say its minimal effect. But u will benefit from previews, scratch disks and and also application startup speed. Installation of programs are also a breeze if u might ask.
I using adobe suite and 3ds max just in case

Better if TS gets the i7-4770k (or the i7-3770k) and reduce budget on other components (PSU, casing etc). By experience, overclocking to 4.5-4.8GHz from stock clock and enabling GPU acceleration (CUDA or OpenCL) for rendering does more to help in faster rendering than mere installation of OS and apps on SSD. What the computer needs is more raw computing power, not just faster load times.
