Have been looking through the various parts for some time and came up with the following parts:

CPU: i5 6600K
Mobo: MSI Z170I Pro Gaming
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 or Cyrorig a40 (not sure if an AIO is needed or will an air cooler be enough? Will be doing some OC'ing)
RAM: Kingston Hyper X 16GB
GPU: Zotac GTX 980 Ti Omega
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB and WD Blue 1 TB
PSU: Superflower 650W
Case: Phanteks Evolv ITX
OS: Windows

So here's a little backstory, have been gaming from my less than adequate laptop and I'm finally fed up with it. What I need will be to run games at ultra to high settings at about 60FPS, and it will also be used to do editing such as photos and audios. My budget will be below $2800, I will need recommendations on where to get the OS and also if the parts I suggested above are feasible?
Can the masters out here, give me some advice as I am new to this. Any advice will be appreciated and thanks in advance :)

The big ticket item is the GPU. The next generation is almost here. Suggest you wait for another month or two.

your proposed build already quite maxed out with current gen products. whether it will be able to manage 60fps with ultra detail will depend a lot on your monitor resolution. HD or 1440p should be no problem...but any higher (maybe for 1440 ultra wide and definitely for 4K) and you're gonna have problems hitting your target

I don't know much about overclocking but since you already have the budget, you can consider a motherboard with an M2 slot so you can run an M2 NVMe drive like the samsung 950

Hi thanks for the replies, I know that the new graphics card has been announced and will only be on sale in June? But how much of a performance boost will it give compare to the current gen?
Hahaha yeah I know it is pretty maxed out but I was wondering if it was a bit of an overkill considering that with that budget I'll have to eat grass for quite some time :s13:

Honestly if ur intention is to OC both the CPU and GPU, i will suggest getting a full ATX board + casing with more slots for fans

Windows is easy. i just bought from Playasia. USD19.99 for Windows 10 Home

Well honestly, I'm not too sure how much of OC I'll be doing at the moment but just wanted the flexibility of being able to OC. Thanks for the advice on going ATX but the space available on my desk is pretty limited so I thought going for an ITX build would be better thought the case might not be the smallest one around but I just kinda like it aesthetic wise :D

Screw ATX, dinosaurs like those are not required...the new 1080 is out. There is nothing left to think about and your budget should manage it. Put it in ur next build in an ITX chassis

Won't the ITX make it a little too hot for gaming if he is going to overclock everything?

With a 6600K and a 1080 gtx, what in the world does he even need to overclock for? The reference 1080 blower design also vents air out through the pci slot so it is not affected by heat inside the case and has already been demonstrated to be 67deg with a 2.1ghz overclock on air cooling alone. If he really wants to overclock his 6600..he could do it with a watercooling supported ITX chassis, of which there are many

If it's for video editing, then you should consider i7.

That's what I thought, but if I'm not doing any video rendering just simple photo and audio editing will the i5 be enough?

Also I know that the next gen cards will be coming up soon, so would it be worth to get a cheaper GPU to at least last till then as I'm pretty interested in the polaris as well even though it might not match up to the 1080. If yes, what cards would be recommended to get for the moment

if this is so, yes i5 is enough.

if u want to use current, 2nd gtx 970 or buy a new amd r9 380 or gtx 960

Anyway, is there any place you guys would recommend to get all these parts from? And if possible is there any advice that could be given to a first time PC builder?

ddr4 ram can get from amazon , very big price difference nearly half
choose from crucial kingston corsair , compare price yourself ... gskill not available

my cpu cooler is from amazon , phanteks tpc14ph
a massive 140mm dual tower air cooler
changed middle fan from 1200rpm to 1500rpm noctua
changed front fan from 1200rpm 140mm to 1800rpm 120mm for ram height
overall 165mm high
6600k @ 4.62ghz
68 d celcius max on x264 benchmark and handbrake
58 d celcius gta V gaming load
hit voltage wall before thermal wall

Still I would prefer u ask those PCT Bros to help u. also at the same time if you have any issues at least it's easier to get parts repair by local distributor. But depends on which products and they will send back to the respective place to repair and send back to them and ask u to come and collect. Where as overseas parts, unless u know what to do if some parts spoil and send to respective countries for repairs, u can do so.

Hmmm.. So if I were to change the cooler to a Cryorig R1 Universal would it be able to keep the temps down as I've read that if this were to be use instead, I would have to sacrifice the rear fan

Basically if I want less of a hassle it is always better to purchase them locally due to the issue on warranty right? Alright thanks for the recommendation, will pop by PC Theme to have a look.
