Recommendation for an above average PC Build

Assuming I've 1.7K - 2k budget for a new Gaming PC.

What would you guys recommend? Thanks.


I've a 144hertz monitor, so I'm good on monitor.

Planning to re-use my old SSD Samsung evo 850 & old Dvd-drive.

I've windows 8.1 disc so no need OS.

Performance wise, Intel edge out AMD when it comes to gaming, but not significant enough to really matter unless you're in pro-league. AMD works better as an production workhorse. I myself am building a new AMD build for myself now.

As for cooler, some good air cooler are able to perform as well as some AIOs for a fraction of its cost. Examples is Noctua NH-D15 and Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (currently using the CM cooler). I'm not well versed in AIOs as I'm using custom open loop for my new build.

As for graphics, brands like MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, Palit, and Zotac just to name a few. Asus cost significantly higher than the other brands, but you'll need to google for the benchmarks. I got my EVGA GTX 1080 from Amazon US as it cost exactly the same as buying a GTX 1070 Ti here.

Case will depend if you going water or air cooling. There are performance factors involve when it comes to component cooling within the case, but there's also the aesthetics factor that is subjected to individual taste, so it's each his own. I personally am inclined towards Fractal Design, so you can consider Define R6 for water cooling, and Meshify for air cooling.

If it is pure gaming don't need to think, just go for intel..

If doing gaming and heavy multitasking then can consider ryzen instead.

As he said he is using a 144HZ monitor, all the more should go for intel to be able to attain as much fps as possible.

For a 2K rig, it's more flexible and you may want to state more details.

Is water cooling system (Define R6) better than (Meshify) air cooling? My previous PC was only using stock fan so not very lasting. 2 years and game over for that pc. I'm not bothered by how it looks, gaming performing matters to me more than anything haha.

what does bronze/gold Modular mean for PSU? is it better to get Gold?

I will skip HDD, purely gaming so my previous old SSD EVO 850 good enough for me as well as my old dvdrom to save cost.

U can check the threat post on the palit promotion, good pricing on the gtx 1070ti rather than u get other brand which have no promotion now

Unfortunately, my room air-con is down and only can use fan.

So, I will get I7-8700 + msi b360 gaming arctic (572$) + Cryorig R1 on Meshify C casing ($130), best option here?

Or should I get NZXT Kraken X72 AIO cooler for better cooling on my CPU>

SSD re use my old - SSD EVO 850 <--- is it better to get a new SSD or It's fine re using my old SSD as it wouldnt affect my gaming performance even if I re use my old and useable SSD?

OS - window 8.1 64 bit.

Ram- what do you recommend? is G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4-3200 CL14 good for this build?
PSU- what would be a good and wise choice?

Should I be getting any additional fans to keep my cpu more cooling?

Intel i7-8700 is a locked cpu. No overclocking on that. Using a Cryorig R1 Universal is already overkill as that cooler is a 280mm liquid cooler equivalent. In fact, I usually recommend cryorig H7 for this kind of use case, but since you need the super low temp on gaming, only which I recommend the R1. You don't need a 360mm liquid cooler on a locked cpu. Overkilling more will only pay more for the same result. As I mentioned too, liquid cooler have multiple potential failure point. Pump fail causing overheating if not monitored, leakage will kill components like gpu. It works great, but when it fail, it fail catastrophically. Know your risk.

For Intel rig, whatever ram cheapest at 2666mhz will do. Corsair Vengeance LPX, G.Skill Ripjaw V, Klevv Bolt/Cras, Crucial Ballistix, whatever cheaper.

For PSU, you can get Seasonic Focus Plus 550W or 650W if you ever wanna upgrade to higher tier gpu like the xx80 Ti models.

Chassis have 2 stock fans. Get another 2 will do. If you can afford, 2x Corsair ML120 would be great.

Your gpu choice is weird. While you overkill your cpu temp, you plan to buy a gpu that have a very basic cooler and will likely throttle on high loads. I did mentioned on the other thread, the Jetstream model will produce better temp and performance overall.

Ok, I will get 2x8GB G.Skill RipJawsV 8GBx2 DDR4 2666mhz at 240$.

Corsair ML120 seem to be alittle out of budget after calculating everything I need to get is about 1.8k Is it alright to leave the addtional fans out ? It will still keep my temp below 45C while gaming right?

I might need a basic dvdrom, any recommedation? or any at cheapest price will do?

Last 2 questions, will re-using my old SSD 850 evo have any impact on my overall performance or its better to get a new SSD?
