Dear experts,

I would like recommendations on a budget gaming mobo + processor combo that is DDR3 compatible ($400ish or lesser is the best spot) that is out on the market right now. Haven't been in the scene for a while so I appreciate all comments and input.

Current build

Asrock B75 + I5 3470 (just died on me RIP in peace)
GTX 970
2x8 GB DD3 Kingston Ram
Seasonic Bronze M12II 520W

Many thanks!

Only 2nd hand motherboard and processor will be compatible with DDR3. If your processor is still working, get a compatible B75 motherboard from Taobao for about $60+shipping and swap it.

Cuz new gen processors and motherboard only support DDR4 and budget of $400 is hard to accommodate CPU+Mobo+DDR4.

Many thanks bro. I did some research and it really seems to head towards the more expensive route.

Gigabyte H310M-S2P + i3 8300 ($252) or i5 8400 ($349) + Klevv 8GB DDR4-2400 ($99) from Tradepac. Why hard to accommodate?:s13:

Simple, because i3-8100 and 8gb ram is a downgrade from his i5 and i5-8400 overshoots his budget.

i3 8100 is not a downgrade from i5 3470.;) And the budget was $400ish, even if 16gb ram and i3, still fits at $450.

Appreciate all the input my friends! Don't worry, most likely I will head down for a PC diagnosis tomorrow and hope it's just a PSU failure... Just wanna keep my options open if I have to upgrade on the spot.

Yupe, you're right. i3-8100 is a 4C 4T meaning its the same as an i5 previously.

I always thought it was a 2C 4T CPUs. My bad.

You can get reasonable B75 motherboards from Taobao and directly ship over if it is a Motherboard problem.
Some Examples:

Gigabyte B75M-D3V

MIS B75MA-P45

i3 8100 and i5 3470 is very similar in gaming performance. Not bad the ddr4 price 8gb can be had at $99 last time was around $150 for ddr4 8gb stick. Can consider overhaul your pc and go for i3 8100 but I think its better for you to just replace your faulty parts be it mobo or psu so can reuse your 16gb ddr3 ram and other parts.

If on tight budget, go for a 2nd hand Haswell i7 + mobo and reuse your DDR3 RAM

Best is you can find i7-4790K + Z97 and overclock to 4.4Ghz. That combo damn power even against many entry to mid-range CPUs today

Thank you everyone!

Should the diagnosis be deemed a mobo/processor failure tomorrow, I intend to go with this (first) mATX build that I managed to piece up from googling. Please give me your comments for any specifications bottleneck (length, performance wise)

Mobo+Processor: Gigabyte B360M-D3H / ASRock B360M Pro4 + I3-8100 @ $305
Casing: Tecware Nexus M @ $46
Ram: Klevv 8GB DDR4-2400 @ $99

With my current
Zotac GTX 970 (I believe it should fit?)
2x Samsung Evo 250GB SSD
1x WD Blue 500GB HDD
Seasonic Bronze M12II 520W Non Modular

Appreciate all help. You guys have been really kind!
