Hi guys, can help to recommend bb plans for parents house. Currently using 1gbs from StarHub but overkill. Wanna find something that is much cheaper for them. Mostly YouTube for them only. Thanks guys in advance.

Have you seen this?

The short answer, 500Mbps with M1 is probably your best bet if you require a home phone line and generally high performance. Else, Whizzcomms might be cheaper if you don't mind a deprioritised ISP.

PS: It might not take into consideration current promotions, as these are generally comparing SRP.

Starhub now have 5 mths free and included 1 unit of wifi 6 router so it is not too expensive. Starhub also have 500 Mbps plan. Nokia Beacon 2 can have wifi coverage for whole HDB unit.

Seems like I will downgrade to 500mbs but am sure there will be a downgrade fee.

Actually with the 5 months free and recon on 21 month, it is only $5/mth more than 500Mbps plan and it give user a new wifi 6 router that can provide a better wifi security with WPA3. As long as your laptop is not too old, a recent update already enable the wifi 5 adaptor to have WPA3. May as well stay at 1Gbps plan since got promotion.

Indeed this is an option. You get the free Nokia Beacon 2 (worth S$70 to S$80 in Carousell) and the free Disney+.
S$45.9 x 16 / 21 = S$34.97 per month

The promotion is meant for new sign-up only though. I guess you can negotiate with Starhub to get the same offer for recontract.

That being said, I choose to stick with Starhub 500Mbps (no contract) at S$29.90 per month as it is kind of hassle free -- no need to worry about the recontract. I use my own router and have never got any free routers from Starhub (except the free D-Link DIR-865L during the initial sign-up in 2014).

Yes I would need to downgrade from 1gb to 500mbs but there is a downgrade fee. That’s the penalty from StarHub for downgrading.
Maybe I should terminate and subscribe again.

Can re-use existing router as it is good enough if do not mind wifi 5 router. If already on 500 mbps then it will be good to stay at 500 mbps. If down grade from 1Gbps and still must pay a fee then like not worth doing it. We also do not know whether one day all ISPs will do away 500 mbps to streamline the plan to 1Gbps plan.

Then new user activation fee will apply. That will be more expensive.

Oh dear.. means no matter what will incur the penalty fees. What a rip off..
There's also a fee for termination, which should be about the same as your downgrade fee. Might as well just pay the downgrade fee and stay with them. ;)

I bought prolink simcard router, used zero1 unlimited plan ($6.90/month) and that was enough to stream youtube on smart tv and even talk to my parent via the home camera streaming as they didn't check their handphone.

Those unlimited plan so slow. Had zero1 unlimited and it takes some time to even load 480p.

Starhub 500mbps plan is still $29 right? Would be a good choice. Router can always get from Carousell, got a lot cheap bnib ones.
