u r better off getting a new HT set. the next best thing will be components but then again, why go for the second best if u can get the best? and its not going to cost bomb, there are many choices out there.

Thnx. I've checked wz Sony dealers. Another option is simply getting a stand-alone dvd player wz HDMI + change to digital cables for audio. Is this advisable?? Said blu-ray is superb, but it's rather ex.

its personal preference and budget. i don't have big budget so i saved for the LCD TV and a good 2.1. as for blu-ray, i went for PS3 instead.

True, PS3 can also play dvd movies besides games functionality. Will consider tis option, too.

Am also looking for a HDMI switch, but am a little curious about how I can route SOUND via the switch.

I currently have the following hooked up to the TV (which only has one measley HDMI port)
1) Mio TV box set
2) XBOX 360
3) PC

I understand that the HDMI cable carries the audio as well, but I would prefer if the audio was not played through the lousy speakers on the TV.

How can I route the audio signals (all of them have digital SPFID) from the HDMI switch to the amplifier (which also only has 1 optical input)?

you should get an optical switch box and connect all 3 to your amp. Audio from hdmi should be switched off in the settings of mio and 360 and pc. There is no need to to spend money on that as the mio/360 both have optical output available. Not sure about your PC of course.

Walked all over FUNAN searching for one. I saw an IOgear for $140+, and a nice-looking XtremeHD for $170. Finally bought a Daiyo 4in 1out for about $169. Chose it because it has auto switching. No need to use the included remote if you have only 1 device on at a time.

XBOX360 OK but 1080P flashes occasionally - 720P is good

Really? I'm using for my HDX1000, PS3, PC and SH HD Hubstation and all working fine.

PS3 needs to be plugged into the last port iirc.

could be the problem with your tv handling the hdmi handshake....i'm inclined to think the better of the monoprice hdmi switch because it works superbly for me.
