Hi,

I am also looking for one. Same budget range as you.

There are some refurbished ones. Not sure if it is worth taking the risk.

I am a programmer myself any laptop would do in my opinion. The langauges & software you plan on running do not need anything fancy or powerful.

You should focus on a good keyboard and a good display to make coding more comfortable.

A nice bonus is an SSD if you decide to program with IDEs (visual studio, eclipse or app development suites) they'll load up faster and you'll be able to have faster emulations too.

Core i5 would be nice to have.

Check the del inspiron series if they are available in your country if not you can settle for a macbook air the lowest end.

Hey Laruku,
Thank you for your input.

Wholeheartedly agree that a good keyboard, screen and ssd is quite the essential.

An macbook air lowest end would cost an 1.2k over here, actually i have a mac but storage is too low to dual boot. My school classes include programming with the .net framework thus mac not really suitable ahah thus looking for something cheaper to tide through.

I tried the visual basic studio for mac and its kinda different as well..

Issit advisable to dual boot my 128gb macbook air pro with win7 and run my visual basic there? Storage seems kinda insufficient.

Im open to ideas, best if no nid buy a new laptop

srs .NET development needs a windows laptop imo.

Not aware of Vmware and Parallels?

If one needs to work in Linux environment and BSD, so we also need another 2 more laptops ? It is just a piece of operating system software as the baseline.

We can run multiple complete suite of enterprise software in it for presales demo, your .NET software is nothing. You don't even need 100% speed for it during development. If speed matters, spin up a Windows server on Amazon Web Services.

Get a mac with more SSD storage. Otherwise work with an external USB SSD. Mac can easily boot up using external disks if u really need such behaviour. Using hypervisors is also a good way to jump between multiple OS environments.

Meanwhile i am on MBP2017 and this is one fantastic accessory for external SSD connectivity, which i do have a couple of SSD lying around. These hardy NANDs is already in a casing, you don't need any other casing just to look nice

yeah .net development pretty much takes out macbooks.

how about the azus zenbook or the dell inspiron?

This one has a sweet deal:
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiro...8052810&sr=8-10&keywords=del+inspiron+core+i5

7th generation core i5 and an SSD. It's full HD too so you can have documentation open next to your code editor.

Get a laptop with pcie ssd. Some laptops have ssd but it is sata 2 which is slow compared to pcie. Read the reviews online. Just be careful some reviews as biased.

theres no need to buy a laptop in fact the one you have is perfect lightweight pcie based ssd and if you are not limited to .net development, macosx gives you three operating systems to deal with prety much any type of development software.

if u didnt have a macbook though and limited to .net development mostly, u could have opted for a win laptop again serious .net development requires a windows laptop i dont think visual studio has been optimized to work as good on a osx and linux system.

if ur buying a laptop to access windows in parallel nearly 24 7 then whats the point?

if ur not limited to it then u can put up with it and get all the perks from a macbook, defintely the best laptop for programmin all around i have a macbook air myself and i did android/ios development on it with no problems mine was a much older model though:s12:

Any laptop will do. But get one with enuf RAM and HDD space so u can virtualize any OS u need to develop on. Sometimes, even the different kernel versions of the target environment makes a difference, hence, this is where virtualization comes handy

For example, development PC at work's base OS is windows, but I have many different VMs depending on the target environment. Codes will be written in the vm, compiled and run for basic testing. After that port onto the staging platform for more comprehensive test
