Haven't been following PC parts for awhile and need some advice from the veterans here.

My current rig's (on the right) motherboard has just died on me. Kinda impossible to find another LGA1366 board (apparently a lot of folks are looking for it here & VRZ) so the next best thing is for me to replace the mobo and CPU.

Any recommendations for motherboard and CPU which can reuse all my other parts, e.g. rams, sound & graphics card (just the GTX 295)? I plan to keep budget as low as possible and also something comparable to the i7 920 (when the i7 920 is not in O/C stage) because I will be moving out soon and will just need one to tide me over the next few months until I get a new PC.

Thank you for any advise. :o

Probably $300?

I didn't specify in case it's something unattainable. Just need a cheap option (or cheapest option) to keep the other parts running until I get a new PC.

Have you checked with distros for any clearance stocks of X58 motherboard?

Haven't checked distro but was at Cyberactive for diagnostics and they said virtually impossible to find the board already.

It's a long shot but can I change board and CPU without reformatting my current OS HDD? I'm hoping for a miracle coz from my limited knowledge, we need to reformat if we change board.
