Recommendation for Nikon wide angle len

I'm not into photography and been using my LG V series for any local and overseas shoots until my OC bought a D5600 for me and alas, as a show of support, I need to start using it. Just bought a tripod which costed less than 60 from TB and gotten some crash course from my friend who taught me some basics in A mode, as I told him I just need the setting in A mode to find the sweet spot to take night scene and landscape as what I usually do when overseas.

As i am to used to Wide angle when taking shoots, I would like to buy a len with WA function. My budget is only less than 200 as I am really not into photography. I was googling when I found this (below pic). Any other recommendations please

If you are strictly looking for a "wide angle lens" I wouldn't go for the 35mm lens. A 35mm on the D5600 works out to about 50mm equivalent focal length (means more zoomed in, tighter field of view). It'll be more suited for portraits or as a walk around lens, but not for a dedicated wide angle lens.

I would assume since you got a D5600 you also have the 18-55mm kit lens? If you zoom the lens out to 18mm you have a wide enough field of view for most intents and purposes. There is no need to buy more lenses unless there are specific kinds of photos you want to take that are impossible to execute with the 18-55mm, say for example astrophotography, which will require a fast wide angle lens.

Last but not least, $200 for a lens that gives you a focal length wider than 18mm is fairly hard to get (unless you manage to snag a good deal on second hand lenses). Nikon's cheaper ultrawide lenses start at around 300usd, working out to about 400+sgd.

Hmm. Still a bit technical for me. My LG is able to capture 135 degree and I love that because I don't have to move further away in order to capture more area. For e.g.. Buildings and scenery. Hmm, in that case, I should be looking at the preowned market. Any Nikon len to recommend ?

Never used an LG G5 before, but according to GSM Arena's specs you'll need a lens with an equivalent focal length of 12mm, which means you will need a 12/1.5 = 8mm lens on your D5600 to achieve the same field of view.

In this category there are only 2 lenses that fit the focal length without having an absurd image circle. One will be the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM which I think is kind of expensive and most definitely out of a $200 budget, the other will be the Rokinon / Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye which is about $200 second hand (try carousell). The latter actually offers a field of view of 167 degrees because it's a fisheye lens, but if you de-fish the image in Photoshop or Lightroom and crop down slightly it should be about the same equivalent field of view.

Edit: There is a software solution here if you don't mind the trouble. You can give it a try but this method is rather situational in day to day use. Still, it will give you a wider field of view.

Sigh. Really cant find a perfect match. Eye fish is way out of range albeit could be managed by editing tool. The sigma could only managed up to 114.5° degree (my ideal is up to 135°), and out of my budget.

Nonetheless, really appreciate your sharing and help. Have a nice weekend ahead.

You want cheap want good... the 35 DX is approximately 50mm.

You're better off with a 2nd hand 20 2.8, however I find the 20mm slightly soft in the center when opened wide.

If budget allows, 18-35G f/3.5-4.5 or if you struck 4D, 17-35 f/2.8.

Either get the Nikon or Sigma10-20mm wide angle zoom lens, go to shops like TK photo to have a hand on try out.

Those normal stand alone 8mm Len usually is manual focus and all manual setting of the exposure on the camera...troublesome...

50mm is not wide. If your phone has snapdragon 820 or later, and android 7.1 or later, root it and use google camera mod

Hmm, are you refering to the physical shop? Because i noticed their prices on Shopee now are quite good and you can use promo codes from Shopee. Where would you reccomend then? im looking at some myself.

Like a couple of the previous commenters, I use a Sigma 10-20mm for my Nikon DSLR.

Very happy with its performance - and I love the ultra-wide field-of-view it gives to my photos. It has lasted me through numerous trips to many many places, and is still in tip-top shape save a few minor scratches on the body.
