Recommendation needed for PC Upgrade

Hi Guys,

My almost 6 yr old DDR3 budget pc has started coming up with issues and I am planning to give a try to DIY a PC for the first time. Would like to use back my old casing and power supply if possible but not necessary if budget allows.

I am not very well versed in DIY PC, but would like to give it a try as presently WFH have allowed me some time to try this out. I have tried to read as much as I can during this period and have shortlisted the below parts but just would like to make sure my budget is well spent.

Budget: $700+/- excluding external peripheral devices, casing, power supply & ssd

MOBO: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (199) / ASRock B450m pro4 (127) / Asus prime B550-Plus (259)
CPU: Ryzen 3600 (~$266 Lazada / Bundle price with MOBO)
GPU: Probably some basic ones that can support up to 1440p as i do not game much
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz (PC4-25600) C16
Kit ($97 Amazon.sg)
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III (re-use)
Power Supply: Corsair VS650 (re-use)
Casing: Old Atx casing with only 1 fan (re-use)

Total = ~$551 (assuming going with MSI B450) Left ard $200+ for GFX

My use case & Requirement;
- Rarely do gaming but do require at least 2 display output for TV and monitor.
- Light video and photography editing / office work with quite a no. applications running / watch movie
- Will not be doing high overclocking but would like to do some light OC for optimal performance at least.
- Would like to watch/stream 4k media content

Hmmmm $200+ for GPU is not really alot. You will be looking at GTX 1650 Super in that price list. Since you don't game much this can be enough but doubt it will be able to run decently at 1440p for games.

But since you are doing dual screen maybe another option you can look into is changing your cpu to a Ryzen 3300X to allocate more of your budget to the GPU, can look into upping it to a GTX 1660 super. 3300X is quite a good budget CPU according to quite a number of reviews online. Tho of cos downgrade it to 3300X will mean losing 4 logical cores as compared to 3600 so things like video rendering timing will increase abit as well.

Streaming or watching in 4k i think both of the above will do fine as well. you can research abit more on which pairing will work better for you.

Thanks for the recommendation, will take a look into 3300x on how much difference it will lose out as compared with 3600. As shopee is having decent cashback on the 9.9, i sld be able to allocate more of my budget for at least a GPU 1650 super.

can jump to 11:07 onwards for average results. tldr, u wont lose out on too much, especially when ur looking at 1080p tier cards (1650s is roughly on par with rx580). the problem with the 3300x isnt how many frames u lose though, but rather finding one in the first place. as far as i know its sold out everywhere, including sls, amazon and even taobao.

Thanks alot for the video, i have tried searching over on those Eplatform and indeed like what you mentioned the 3300x are OOS everywhere other than those unknown source from overseas.

If really cant find, i will be consider to stretch my budget further for the proper gpu cards as per recommendation.
