Tell you what. Since your budget is high and you do not need such a high end gpu to play dota 2 and the other games at max settings. I will give you a recommendations.

Mobo + CPU bundle
MSI Z87-g41 PC Mate + Intel i5-4670k ~ $427

RAM
Gskills Ripjaws 1600Mhz kit 2x4gb ~ $95

HDD
Seagate 1tb 7200rpm ~ $78

SSD
Plextor m5s 128gb ~ $135

GPU
Sapphire HD7850 2gb OC edition ~ $259

PSU
Thermaltake Smart SE 620W modular bronze ~ $95

Chassis
Sharkoon T28 Blue ~ $87

ODD (Optional)
Any brand ~ $24

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ~ $115

Total $1315 with ODD Build at Tradepac

Now the reason why i recommend a oc board and a cpu is because your budget is on a high side. And i recommend MSI z87 mobo cause it is the cheapest gaming mobo to recommend among the other brands. And not only that the price point of $159, i'm sure at this price for other brands you can the most find a H87. So it is worth it to get the MSI z87 g41 pc mate.

GPU wise honestly you need not such a very high end as your games that you play arent that high end. So the 7850 should suffice your needs.

If you willing to pump in more budget then you could get a better PSU. I recommend the Thermaltake Smart SE is because of the cables that are flat. Easier to manage. So it is up to you.

The rest of your budget is up to you to get a cpu cooler.

thanks royfrosty for your recommendations! Much appreciated

what GPU would you recommend for higher end games?

Is Power Color 7950 DDR5 Boost 3GB is good option?

What games you planning to play, what resolution, budget?
760 is a good option, if 1080p, on par performance with 7970 and cheaper than 7950 depending on the brand card you going for, cos 3GB VRam only really necessary if going above 1080/1200p.
Ofc, 7970 probably better at OCing, higher membus etc..

7870 also solid choice for value.

Can hunt second hand too! 7970 around $400 second hand is possible, but gtx700 series don't think possible to get 2nd hand cos new card on market.

Programming use i7 if it's intensive and needs loads of time for compiling.

Hi Teng Zai
I using U2312HM with 1920x1080 resolution,
currently playing d3, dota2. but planning to play fifa14, GTA5 when they are released.
Budget is 1.3k - 1.5k w/o monitor, mouse & keyboard.

Which GPU would you recommend?

Why give him 4670k when he said no overclocking.....

You look at the price list and you see whether is it justify that value to buy a B or a H series with a 4670 processor or not loh. All the pricing differs from $20-$25 difference, i rather he hoot an MSI Z87-G41 gaming mate + i5-4670k @ $417. Cause the mobo alone is only $159.

UNLESS ts tells me that he wants to save up some more than i would recommend to drop the K processor. And since he can afford such a high budget, so why not give him?

And further more he wants a future proof pc. So if in future he needs some demanding cpu boost at least in the future he is able to do so.

Hi Teng Zai

Budget is 1.3k - 1.5k w/o monitor, mouse & keyboard.

Which GPU would you recommend?

Dota2, d3 shouldn't have much problem at 1080p and can easily max dota2 with 7770, 7850, 650 no problem.

GTA 5, not really sure since haven't release no benchmarks,
However GTA 4 7850 at mid-high can hit 60fps.

Ofc GTA 5 will be more graphic intensive but no one knows for sure exactly how much you need to achieve your desired FPS.

For your budget, I recommend you try to set aside $360-410 for a gtx760, one of the best value for 1080p.

Well, if he wants to OC in the future, then maybe that is ok....

If not, he should pump all extra money into his GPU.. or maybe can save the extras...

That will then allow TS to choose more options and weigh himself.

So TS what you really want?

Better CPU performance in future? Or you just wanna Tambah everything on a GPU?

Or you daring de hua. Both also get? =:p

Edit for you, cos TS probably poor peasant like myself :s22:
Haha jkjk low budget =/= peasant like me =:p

IMO a few dollars(~$20) for better cpu and OC performance SHOULD really be considered if you are already deciding for something like a gtx760. Cos then the next upgrade to a 760 on 1080p would be something like a 770 which is double or more of a 760.
Throwing that few extra dollars saved into a GPU isn't always enough to get you a better GPU.
So unless you not enough dollar for a 760, then maybe choose to spend more on GPU lor.

Besides, future games will be more CPU intensive, so having the option of dropping an extra $20 for the same chip and unlocked plus a better mobo isn't by any stretch of the imagination a bad decision.

Ultimately, its up to TS decision, and we are just here to give our two cents and widen his options so he can choose and decide how to spend his money best.

Hello ppl many thanks for your inputs!

As for programming requirements I believe i5 should be enough since I mostly deal with web based projects..

I would prefer not to OC and get more value on GPU if can :s13:
Any more recommendations from bros here? :o

Bro think you miss my above post.

For simplified version:

1. GTX760 best card you can get for now at <$400.
2. Anything higher need something like GTX770 around double or more of the price
3. If can afford GTX760 already, you willing to fork out double for 770? Saving that measly $20 on an unlocked chip and better mobo isn't going to get you anywhere close to GTX770, the next upgrade of 760.

So.. up to you. Unless you bargain or deal hunter, maybe that extra $20 can get you two older cards to Xfire or SLI for much better performance than the 760, at the cost of microstuttering, heat etc, etc.

Ofc that $20 can let you upgrade other things too, but all comes down to what you really need and what is more value to you. Heck you could take that $20 for use as cab fee if you don't drive and enjoy the luxury of cabbing home, if to you that is better value.

Ok. Then you can tambah a palit gtx760 jetstream 2gb at $360.

Next to oc or not to oc i think just reconsider the $20 factor to get a good mobo n a good cpu. $20 can go a long way bro. I leave it to you.

If you dont see the value of a z87 then just get the b87 together with a 4570.

I see there is a lot of recommendation getting a 4570 as a i5 CPU, may i know whats the reason for it? as the min i think is a 4430?

4430 to 4570 difference $15 nia.

That is why people rather pay that amount for a slight better performance.

But if you go for the msi z87-g41 that i recommend. Since the board is so cheap, then might as well hoot the 4670k. Both add up is the same price as people buying the B or H series with a 4570. For $20 more you get a z87 mobo and a good cpu. Really worth it.

Anyway its up to you.
