That $258 is the CPU price.

Another thing, no discrete video card? If so, that PSU is way oversized.

Are you going to game?

---------------

I don't know but it seems that there are more complaints about the WD Blue in terms of death rates compared to Green, Black and Red for some reason. I can understand for Black and Red, but Green?

HDD
Seagate 1tb 7200rpm ~ $78

Plextor M5S 128gb ~ $134

PSU
FSP Raider 450W ~ $68

ODD
Any brand $24

If he wants to torrent, he may want to get 3TB, and maybe even do RAID (1 or higher, but not 0).

But 3TB needs UEFI bios i think...

Thanks for all the advise, as will be using the PC for photo editting some time, I am keeping the CPU as i5, not sure whether still overkill.

Was trying to build base on Tradepac but most of the item price stated as "OFFER". Below price was based on PC Theme price list.

Asrock B87M, i5-4570 PRO4 $386
Kingston DDR3 PC3 1600MHz 4G $47
SSD PLEXTOR M5 PRO 7mm 128GB $169
HDD WD 2TB 64MB (GREEN) SATA3 $119

Leadtek GTX 650 Ti 1G DDR5 $185
PSU CORSAIR CX500M Bronze $99
CPU casing CM Elite K550 w/window USB3.0 $79
CPU cooler CM Hyper TX3 EVO $45
DVD ASUS 24X SATA DVDRW $27
TP Link wireless N-adapter N600 Dual Band USB $45
Window 7 HOME 64bits OEM $120

Assembly $10
Total $1331

lower spec for mobo, cpu, psu and ram, included gpu. Price is slightly over my budget now of ~1k. Trying to change the hdd but no blue with 2TB. Is the green really that slow?

Thank you.

Green is running at 5400rpm. Instead of the usual 7200rpm.

If your budget is low. Get the ivy build instead. You should be looking at the following below.

And as for Asrock i don't see any B87M on Tradepac list.

MSI H77MA-G43 + i5-3470 ~ $344
Kingston Value Ram 4gb ~ $45
Seagate 2TB 7200rpm ~ $110
Plextor M5S 128gb ~ $134 (I don't think you need till PRO)
Leadtek 650Ti 1gb ~ $169
W7 Home Premium ~ $115
CPU casing CM Elite K550 w/window USB3.0 ~ $75
Seasonic M12ii Bronze 520w ~ $78
Asus ODD ~ $24

You don't need a cooler since you are not overclocking. Just use the Intel Heatsink will do.

Do you really need a Dual Band? Cause if your modem isn't dual band then this is pointless.

For non dual band can get TP Link Wireless N Adapter at only $20.

If you have dual band then can get the one you wanted.

Total $1094 build at tradepac. Can ask for cash discount. Should be able to hit you budget.

You can also play around with the HDD. Do you really need SSD? If you don't mind excluding it you can get a WD 2tb Red.

CPU & Mobo: i5-3450 & Asrock B75M-DGS @ $290
Ram: Kingston 1600mhz value ram 4GB @ $42
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 2TB @ ~$116
SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB @ $139
Case: Sharkoon T5 @ $65
PSU: FSP Raider 450W @ $68
OS: Windows 7 Home 64bit OEM @ $110

Total: $852
Buy and build at Tradepac.

You don't need a graphic card if you don't intend to game with this PC. And IMO, your usage doesn't require an i5 too. But since you insist in getting one, I will recommend ivy bridge processor as it is more value for money.

Yes this build is possible. But must know what kind of photo editing he is doing also.

Yeah true. But I've read his post and he said he will use photo editing some time. So I assume he won't use it very often and even if he uses it, it won't be very intensive. :o
