Recommendation on mobo and cpu

Hi all,

With the help of friendly pple here, i suspect my mobo is gone.

current rig
CPU & Mobo: i7-3770k & Asrock Extreme 4
CPU Cooler & Case: CM Hyper Evo 212 & Asgard Pro
Ram: G.Skill 1600mhz value ram 2x8GB
HDD: Toshiba 2GB
GPU: MSI 7850
PSU: Seasonic S12 520W

Unless 2nd hand good deal comes fast, intend to reuse all good parts and get new mobo for piece of mind.

should i get a Intel Core i5-4460 + ASRock H81M-HDS R2.0
or top up abit for
i5-6500 + mobo(need help on this)

Can i reuse my rams if i choose i5 6500?

You should go for the newer gen MB+CPU. You won't be able to use the DDR3 but should be able to sell that and top up a bit for DDR4.

hihi, any reason why i should go for the new mb+cpu? I am not good with technology. I am stuck with ivy bridge era.

For mobo with ddr3 support can try ASUS H110M-A-D3 or ASUS H110M-A-D3 or ASUS H110M-A-D3 or Gigaybte B150M-D3V.

You can go for 4th gen CPU with LGA 1150 board and reuse your ddr3 RAM to save cost. Performance difference compare to 6th gen with ddr4 will be few fps difference if you are fine with it.

Think you can just buy LGA 1155 board at SLS then reuse all your parts even better. Save more Money.

I dont need i7 anymore. i5 will do.

hmm budget, maybe below $450, lower the better, but open to suggestion.
Current pc fits me good. Wonder it make more sense to get a i5 4xxx or i5 6500. I dun mind sticking with i5 4xxx.

I usually use my pc for many years. If i remember correctly, my previous pc before this i7 3xxx, was a very old pc, pentium 4 or something.. hahaha

About 10% or so improvement per clock per generation. Also, newer gen parts have better resale value in case you decide to upgrade.

The incremental cost to move from DDR3 to DDR4 is quite small so RAM shouldn't be a factor in your decision.

Ask around in SLS shop some of the shop should still have a couple of 1155 board available because some of the 1155 board are still in production. Last I went SLS manage to find some 1155 board, gigabyte biostar asrock board etc. Mynextcom website I think also have.

Then you can reuse your i7 3gen as that processor is still very powerful its a waste not to use it.

But up to you whether you want to full overhaul and get 4th gen or 6th gen ddr4 combo have to spend more in that regards.

If you are not planning to sell your pc parts when upgrading there is no need to be concern about the resale value. Just use until the parts spoilt warranty over then throw away type.

If you wanna stick with a LGA 1155 board, you might wanna try and give Uncle Lim at Upper Serangoon Shopping Center a call. I went to him to change my spoilt mobo to a asrock Z77 Pro4-M last year around September. Paid $130 for the board. Sure, its been more than 1 year since but no harm giving him a call to check. His contact is (hp)91457871 or (shop)62857058.

Anyway it's TS decision to go whichever way he prefers.

though i check on g.skill web can only find this model, not sure ts ram is it the ram in the list or from the website.

After some consideration n reading through all reply, I might just sell away my chip and rams, top up abit and get 6500 + mobo
let's see what the outcome when i bring my rig down for one last check.

for 6 gen cpu, i see that msi b150 bazooka plus is quite frequently recommended too. Any diff between msi and GA H110M-DS2 DDR4?
better if i use ddr4 rams instead of ddr3?

I feel that if i can sell away my current cpu and rams, getting a 6xxx cpu become more affordable.

well that board i reco is because it seems bang for bucks though but for tight budget user H110 board is still working at it best as well. just that u wont have a few more usb, sata port and pcie lane. Display port also quite limited (although the same can be say about b150, but some model have 2 display port)

for me if can i just sell away the old system and grab a new system, just to make sure i can reuse certain parts 4~5 years later, but i think u are fine to use it as long as it can work for 10 years.
