I am trying to build a gaming rig (budget <$1800):

RAM Kingston 1600mhz 8GB RAM $86
GPU Power Color 7950 DDR5 Boost 3GB $395
SSD Plextor MSP 128GB SATA3 $172
DVD-RW Asus 24X DVD-RW $28
Casing Sharkoon T28 (Red) $89
Software MS Windows 7 OEM $120
Monitor Dell 23" U2312HM $255

Please comment on my above rig.
Also would like to know if the Asus Mobo has a in-built wireless lan or do i have to get one additional wireless lan card.
im also thinking about asrock H87M-Pro4 vs asus mobo. Any suggestion which is better?

The mobo and CPU can change to MSI Z87 g41 PC Mate and a 4670k processor will only cost $427 Cheaper~

U have to get an additional wireless card for Asus boards..

Try look at Gigabyte boards for wifi..

Oh and for wifi, either get the PCIe wifi card or get the wireless N adapter.

Both are the same. But for range wise get the PCIe wifi card as it has an antenna out.

Go for the adapter if your desktop isn't that far from the router.

Price wise PCIe is about $45

Adapter is at $25

i will be going over to SLS to buy and build the rig this month.
first timer so would like to know how long does it normally takes for the shop to build a rig. and do i have to shop for all the parts myself or just pass the shop owner my wanted list of items will do?

Pass them the list you want. See if they can help you. If the parts arent available they will let you know and see what they can suggest.

Usually they take about an hour. But they just do simple installation for you. Meaning to say they dont wire manage for you.

They do install for you with a fee if im not wrong.

Try building it yourself if possible. The satisfaction is there. And you will love it. Haha.

YES! LOL. Mechanical kb my fav. Once a mechanical kb user i will never go back to normal kb.

Change gpu and psu to PC Themes, MSI GTX 760 & FSP Platinum 550W @ $519. Change HDD to Hitachi Enterprise 1TB @ $89 as it costs $4 more but comes with 5 years warranty compared to WD Blue 3 years warranty.

IMO for mainstream user, Plextor M5S 128GB is fine.

yes , i ask from pct , he say 89 one is 2 year warranty only , 5 year one is over 100 ,like 145 or 149 , then later i get it from best value 8$

lol, jus realise they omitted out the 5yr warranty frm pricelist... used to print together with the Hitachi Enterprise 1TB....

They must pay a small fee (3%? of the amount) to get the money... can siam den siam lor... pay cash gt discount oso good.

Wow didn't know there is a 2 types of warranty for their enterprise HDD. I thought all Hitachi Enterprise HDDs come with 5 years warranty only.

So, which do you recommend next? Hitachi Deskstar 1TB good? Though i dunnoe that one how many years warranty... Tradepac selling at $80.

Hitachi Deskstar is 3 years. It's kind of weird that Enterprise only offers 2 years. Tradepac price list also selling Hitachi Enterprise, maybe can double check with them.

I see... btw, wanna ask you, how come you can always get the prices frm tradepac? Got some of them always show 'OFFER'...

Assumption? Haha.. most of the time their prices won't differ much. If not, I will take reference from Best Buy Computers because Tradepac price is slightly below theirs.
