Hi all.
Will be building a new system in a few months time. So now currently planning what sort of parts i need/want for it.

Using it for games(RTS, MMO, RPG, FPS and maybe VR in the future??), everyday usage and school work.
Also. i'm going for a red and black theme and want the system to look nice on the inside and outside.

i5-6600k
Z170 Motherboard(Haven't decide brand and ITX or ATX)
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
HDD: WD Blue 1 or 2TB
Graphics Card: GTX 980ti
PSU: 750w gold
RAM: DDR4 16GB
Case: NZXT Manta(ITX) or Phanteks Enthoo Evolv(ATX)

Questions:
For SSD, is there a difference between M.2 and SATA in performance? From what i researched, the performance is not very big?

I'm unsure if i will even utilize the extra PCIe on the ATX motherboard, so should i get a ITX one since i know that 1 slot is for the graphics card

I haven't done any overclocking in the past. So what are the benefits of doing so.

Feel free to correct me on some area of my plan, e.g CPU, GPU, etc

...

im using samsung 950 pro on my skylake build with windows 10. boot up still takes like 20s
on my old ivy bridge windows 7 and samsung 840evo boot up takes 10-12s only...:s13::s13:
anyway for convenience and lesser cables i think just go for m.2 ssd
rams i suggest u go buy frm amazon, i got mine 2400mhz for $90 sgd only.

psu 850W gold+ around $140 sgd from amazon also (psu up to u, some ppl dun like to get from amazon becoz of warranty issues coz psu higher chances of doa, rams quite rare to get doa)

and gpu u might wanna wait til june or july for 1000series? since u stated u building in a few months time

and u might wanna state ur budget so other bros can better recommend u

For the SSD. If performance between M.2 and SATA is not alot, then it seem to make more sense to get SATA ver.

Budget wise I can afford a 980ti and a not so super high end Motherboard with the few stuff i mentioned before, just that i'm unsure about the GPU and motherboard if its worth the money to get it. 970 cost about 500ish locally and 980ti cost about 1kish? is that extra 500ish bucks worth it?

depending on what are you using the system for, most game can run the highest setting on gtx970
if can, wait for the polaris to be out before building your comp
also any reason on why you need a OC system, if not can just consider a H or B board instead, cause 6600k does not comes with any cooler, you will need to add in a air cooler or liquid cooler into your budget
For m.2 SSD, there is no real life difference but on paper, the read write between sata and m.2 is a great difference, it does make more sense to get sata if on budget
if you are getting itx, make sure the itx case can fit the gpu you wanted.

You can only see the difference when transferring bulk files or when doing intensive rendering work. Your usual windows bootup and programs loading will feel the same, at least for now.

I'm unsure if i will even utilize the extra PCIe on the ATX motherboard, so should i get a ITX one since i know that 1 slot is for the graphics card
If you wouldn't mind, just go for it.

I haven't done any overclocking in the past. So what are the benefits of doing so.
Gaming wise only certain games can see noticeable fps boost. It will also be beneficial if you wish to keep using this PC 5-6 years down the road, where you can overclock it to reach similar performance with mainstream CPUs then.Just like how 2011-Sandy Bridge users are doing so and not switching to Skylake. It will cost a bomb though. A minimum of $200 topup over clock-locked CPU+MB combo with K CPU, Z motherboard, 3rd-party cooling system, cooling fan, etc.. And YMMV.

Feel free to correct me on some area of my plan, e.g CPU, GPU, etc

Come back for AMD Zen, AMD Polaris, Intel Kaby Lake, Nvidia Pascal.... or hoot current top-end parts on low price then.

Thanks for the input.
I intend to use the pc for more than 5 years provided they don't fail me and will be getting an AIO cooling as it kinda looks very very nice. Will wait out for a few months to see how prices are for the current parts
